I took Harley to the vets this morning to get flea and worming done. She also got weighed - 14.5kg (she is 20 weeks old) and vet said she us a perfect weight :)

The big problem I have is in the car.

My daughter sat in the back with Harley who has her blanket on the seat and is strapped in via her harness. In the car she whines constantly unless we give her treats constantly!
Once we were out of the car she was brilliant, sat nicely in the vets when other dogs were running around and barking. She had her worming tablet which she ate straight away :).
Then, back in the car! It is really frustrating as when my daughter it at uni, it is just me and Harley. It is really distressing for us both when she whines and struggles trying to get free.........

Any suggestions? The vet suggested Adaptil......anyone ever used this?

I don't have any advice - sorry. But, our DexiD4DivaDog whines constantly in the car too both on the way to a walk/swim and all the way home. With her it is caused by excitement rather than nerves or stress .... happy whinging

Charlie cried like mad in the car when we first got him - it went on a while. Then it just stopped. I think he just got used to it. And we gave him kongs, so he started to associate the car with settling down with a good treat.

Recently, he has started whining in the car. I think this is frustration (he is on bed rest right now, and isn't getting any off lead walks) and also the dog walker has let him get away with it. I've been using Pippa's click for quiet article, and had a bit of success with it. You need two people though if the car is moving.

We had whining Ternaya, when there was 2 of us we did click and treat for quiet but more often than not it was me on my own with him......I realised I was the cause.if I ignored him he eventually just stopped and was quiet,I used to fuss him..'.Dex Pops you ok?' ' watch out Dexter, here comes a speed bump ( there was 14 of them to be exact between me and my sisters house!)' watcha looking at Dexter?' All the daft things you chatter away saying to them, well I do anyway.....haven't mentioned the songs either have I? ;D
Anyway in summary,I shut up and so did he! X

Very valid point Angela, I do think our anxieties rub off onto our dogs so the more relaxed we are, the better they are in stressful situations x

Every time one of my dogs whined as a pup, I stopped the car, as soon as they stopped I moved forward! They learned in surprisingly quick time that if they wanted to get to the walk area, they had to be quiet! However, you have to choose a relatively quiet road without too much traffic!

    Thanks for all the advice.
I will try using a kong, thanks Julie, don't know why I didn't think of this
He he Angela, I also sing (badly!) to try and calm her, but am probs making her worse :-[
I will persevere for a while by ignoring before trying adaptil.
