Holly has taken to rolling in fox poo. We're reluctant to give her a bath every time as we don't want to remove the natural oils from her coat, especially at this time of year. Does anyone have any good tips for cleaning it?

A tip I learnt when showing my GWPs is to rub in tomato ketchup and rinse in clean water. Worked really well when I tried it and have been carrying around a sachet of it in my walking coat ever since. The longer you can leave it on (say 10 minutes) the better the result

A good idea if you never want to eat tomato ketchup again :p
Someone else suggested tomato puree I think - maybe better on black or choccies though.

I abandoned the "spot treatments" in favour of full on baths, but now use doggy soaps rather than the shampoo as I think they are better at retaining some oils. I do take Lilly to hydrotherapy twice a month, so we never really build up that good oily waterproof coat - hey! whats another 2 baths in a week ::)

Tomato ketchup! I've never heard that one before. We'll give it a try, thanks.

I wonder whether it might be the acidic vinegar in the ketchup that does the trick, rather than the tomatoes? Wonder if vinegar might work on a pale dog. Or different brands of ketchup are better than others! ;D ;D ;D

I saw a shampoo especially made for Fox Poo the other day, cannot remember where though! I guess you could just shampoo the offending part :)

That's the one Jac, I have used it once on Charlie when he went for a roll, worked a treat and you only have to use it on the affected area. My only claim to training fame is I taught Hattie 'no rolling' ;D

I love Hattie - she sounds so biddable!
Teaching Lilly not to poo roll would be a challenge. Can't see being able to proof that too easily ;D

I love Hattie :*, she is a great girl and I think it's her Poodle/Labrador brain she soaks up training and is of course clever ;D. No poo rolling was easy Jac, everytime I saw her getting into position I just said "no rolling" and she hasn't rolled since she was about 18 months.

Amy seems to find some every day, I am sure she does it so I will let her in the water on our walk!

After rolling on three consecutive days Holly was beginning to get a bit "high". Today we gave her a bath. She smells nice (for once) and feels lovely and soft.

Tomorrow, without doubt, she will find another fox poo to roll in.

Am feeling a little left out .... never bathed either my Giant Schnauzers, GWPs, or DexiD4DivaDog but am lucky enough to have a large deep and clean free-flowing pond a couple of miles away so a good swim has done the job for me.
