Poor barley had a bad morning today. Went of for normal walk, him having fun, weeing on every available piece of grass, dodging puddles and mud, you know normal doggy stuff. Then for no obvious reason he started to limb, i checked his paw incase he had stood on something, but all was fine there. I let him stand still for a few minutes then continued but still the same, with every step his limp got worse, we were only half way into our normal walk. He managed to limp to a bench where he layed down and refused to move for over 5 mins, in this time i occupied puzzle with a ball as he was getting very grumpy towards her as she wanted him to play and he was not in the mood. Eventually i helped him to his feet and we made our way back to the car. Thought about taking him to the vet but they are closed today so would have to pay for very expensive out of hours fee for something that could not be serious as first thought. He was better after having a rest but still limping. What was different about this limp was that it was his front leg not his back ones as we know he has problems with his hips so a front leg injury will not help at all. He has had some pain medication and some anti inflammatory stuff that we have spare for when he does overdo it or hurt himself. Rest for the rest of today and tomorrow, if he is no better of worse tomorrow he will go to the vet and have his hip x-rays moved forward and get his front leg done as well. he has had a heat pack on his shoulder and is currently sleeping with a blanket over him, snoring his head off. there is no swelling or heat, nothing in his foot, no cuts on his pad, so don't know what he has done but hope he gets better soon as we start training classes again on friday that we will probably have to miss now because of his leg, but we will see how he goes.
Re: Poor boy That is so worrying for you, I do hope you manage to get to the bottom of what's wrong and get him the right help. Sending hugs to you and Barley from us, we know how stressful it all is. I know the x-rays are expensive - I'm just paying the credit card bill for Charlie's right now! Although you'd have a heart attack if you knew what I paid in central London for them, at least they were excellent quality and the specialists didn't have to redo them - at more expense - which can happen sometimes. But if you can manage to have them done, it would help with figuring out what's wrong since you've been worried for quite a while now about Barley's lameness and problems. The extra plates to do Charlie's shoulders, elbows and knees (in addition to the hips) were well worth it, particularly since we turned out to have a knee problem when we were checking for a hip problem.
Re: Poor boy Poor Barley. He doesn't need to go looking for his troubles Hope he's feeling better soon x
Re: Poor boy Sorry to hear about your boy. Hopefully he just pulled a muscle and he'll be better after a bit of rest! I'm starting the process of investigating Penny's hind limb lameness at the moment so I know how worrying it can be. Hope you get good news!
Re: Poor boy Oh poor Barley, what an extra worry for you Annabelle, do hope it isn't anything serious.
Re: Poor boy Better but still not 100%, still putting more weight on his other front leg, but weight bearing more so he is feeling better. Rest for the weekend and we will see how he goes, if he starts to limp badly again he will go strait to the vet no questions asked as it will put more weight on his back legs which won't help them.
Re: Poor boy he was better util yesterday when he started limping after getting up from sleeping, it was an old stiff boy limp, so deffinitly something going on with his shoulder. several years ago he did damage the same shoulder so we think it is the same injury returned, so when he has his hip x-rays we will get his shoulders done too just to be on the safe side and make sure they are all in working order.
