i have a 13 week old black female lab called pebble i was wondering if its good to take her on long walks around 1 or 2hours in the morning and the later on in the day for a 15 min play in the park
Re: help Hiya. A good suggestion I was told on her was to lead walk for no more than 5 mins per month of age ( so 15 mins a day max). I have Harley who is 5 months and I walk her once a day - 10 mins to the park, 45 mins off lead, running on grass, playing with other dogs, ball catching and some training, then a 10 min walk home. On a weekend I take her for a walk in the woods, but only on lead for 15-20 mins max. Hope this helps
Re: help no definitely not , the walking rule is 5 mins each month,...pebble should be having no more that 15/20 mins
Re: help Hi there! Welcome to the forum. 1-2 hours sounds like far too long a walk for a little one. There is a "5 minute rule" which gives a bit of guidance and is talked about in Pippa's guide.... http://www.thelabradorsite.com/?p=1671 So....probably 15-20 mins would be the maximum at 13 weeks of the organised on-lead walking. Hope that helps. There is loads of information on the main site, sometimes too much, so feel free to ask - there is usually someone around to help! Jac and Lilly (3 and a half black girl) (I'm too slow - 2 folk got in before me!)
Re: help Hi there, and welcome. Later, when Pebble is about a year old, then 1 to 2 hours walking in the morning will be perfect! But right now she is far too little for that, and her joints are still developing. Caution is the word for now...
Re: help welcome! i am pretty new also, but i can tell you the folk here are marvelous and you'll be quite happy!!!
Re: help Welcome to the forum Pebble from me Helen, hattie 6 years and our rescue Charlie 3 years. Have fun
