Hi, Well I have accepted defeat, I am not going to get Otis housetrained without a crate. Its really not working, and for some reason he has started to poo indoors now too. Ive bought a crate on e bay a soft fabric one, large size, I hope its okay, its not the best sort of one, but its what I can afford. I will make him up a nice cosy bed in there, and get some roast chicken in to start crate training. Also might start feeding him in the spots he wees in too, which was a tip from the forum. Really hope it all works, else Im stuck ! Thanks, Maggie x
Re: Crate I've no experience with fabric crates Maggie, not sure how strong they are? Hope it works out for you, and good luck
Re: Crate Good luck with it - hopefully you won't have to use it for long. Just to put him in during the danger times when you know he is not "empty"!
Re: Crate good luck from me too. you might find he loves it so much he goes in it more than you would imagine! I can't get my two completely de crated - now nearly 2.5 and nearly 2, and while they are happily out of them all day and overnight when I'm around, they are not impressed about not being able to go in them when I go out and leave them home alone.....had a few experiments and its not going down well so I've figured just let them keep them if they feel nice and safe in them home alone...
Re: Crate Maggie - forgot to say... I used this programme recently for my Charlie: http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/virtual-pet-behaviorist/dog-behavior/weekend-crate-training But I spread it out over a week, as didn't need to do it in a weekend (you might though!). There is a great article here too: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/?p=1144
Re: Crate Thanks everyone, Im actualy getting a more sturdy crate now, a metal cage one, think he needs to see out of it, the fabric one wasnt suitable really, and Ive found one just as cheap. Thanks especialy Julie T, I need that link and will follow the plan in it to get him housetrained, thanks again. Maggie
Re: Crate I'm glad you have found a metal one - I think for dogs that are used to being crated, a fabric one can be a great temporary solution. For Otis, I'm sure you are right - he will enjoy being able to see out. Good luck with it, Clare
Re: Crate I think it's worth getting a good strong safe cage, even if it's more expensive Maggie. You can sometimes find them on sale secondhand (that's how I got mine).
