Sorry but its a proud owner post : I`ve had terriers alongside gundogs breeds all my life , maybe I am a masochist or just enjoy the challenge Now had Millie for six and a half months and began training with her straight away , she loves it and being very food orientated has helped , I guess being a stray in her previous life has made her this way . The one area in which I struggled was the chase , mainly squirrels at the woods , they arent compltely hibernating but come down to the woodland floor to stock up and they drive her crackers , Sam ignores them completely , he prefers his dummy any day I`ve been working hard on the recall whistle with Millie , it was interrupted somewhat due to her recent spay but this morning we had a real eureka moment, I was so proud of her . She spotted one her furry friends and ran hell for leather , I blasted five pips on the whistle and blow me, if she didnt stop dead in mid flight , turn round and ran full pelt back to me ;D ;D Massive fuss and two pieces of sausage , I then wondered if this was a fluke, but no , I recalled her from more of the pesky little blighters , so proud of our little scruff ;D
Re: So proud of Millie Now that is BRILLIANT. Recalling a terrier from a squirrel chase - I call that real success. Well done, Kate!
Re: So proud of Millie Well done millie, we had a similar episode on our walk with puzzle chasing after a crow as it took flight when she was fetching her ball, she stopped mid flight picked up the ball she had dropped and came hurtling back with a big smile on her face. No chance with barley even though he is on lead, he taught me how to fly when on holiday as he say a bird and he was on his long line, he took off and was at full pelt when he reached the end of the line, i flew through the air and crash landed, still holding onto the end of lead, i would never let go of his lead even if he is dragging me across the floor, due to being on holiday in a strange place without any fence to stop him from disappearing into the distance. Dad laughed at my crash landing but it hurt a lot, put me out of action for the rest of the holiday
Re: So proud of Millie Great work with Millie!! You must have been pretty thrilled to see her racing back
Re: So proud of Millie Good stuff! She's an adorable dog. Wish I'd got another when we had the chance to go with Lady.
Re: So proud of Millie That is seriously impressive! ;D ;D A huge well done to the pair of you. Clare
Re: So proud of Millie Thank you for the lovely comments , a rescue is always that much harder than a dog owned as a puppy , especially one picked up as a stray like Millie was , there is just no background information . I decided to go right back to basics with her , treating her like a puppy even though she is about 6/7 years old , its been hard work but so very rewarding , she is a dear little soul indeed , very much loved
Re: So proud of Millie You've done a great job with her Kate and it's lovely that you get so much pleasure from her x
