    hi all,
Oscar is a chewer, chews everyting and anything ::). We buy him toys and they are destroyed within about an hour of giving them to him, so i was wondering if anyone knows any good stores of websites to get toys from that oscar won't destroy. ::)

I think your best bet is to assume that even supposedly 'indestructible' toys are time-limited... sometimes so time-limited that they are not worth the purchase price!

Look at any of the Kong dog toys - the traditional kongs that are intended for stuffing, the kong bones, safestix... these will all withstand a lot of chewing and be good fun (Pets at Home or Amazon carry a good range). Other brands of treat ball / treat dispensers are available - Oscar wouldn't be the first Lab to dispense treats by biting straight through the plastic though!! The kongs are chewy rubber and there is even a heavy duty black version for hard-core chewers - you may well have used Kong toys already with your GSD. Rope toys are good too.

    Hi claire,
Yes we got oscar a kong but he gets bored playing with it - whereas with other toys he finds them more interesting the only thing is he completely destroys them haha. Its the same for rope toys, detroys them then sits eating the rope - what a boy ::)

Think we are just going to have to keep buying him a new toy ever week ;D

All toys are only truly interesting though when there is someone prepared to play with you!!!

Have you tried stuffing the kong to keep him interested??

Don't forget that you can feed him part of his daily ration of kibble in these sorts of toys - it doesn't have to be in addition to his meals!

Soak the kibble in warm water (others get very creative and will use the liquid from a can of pilchards etc), then squash it in the kong and then freeze. It can be his meal, and keep him occupied too...

I use the kong as part of Harley's food allowance each day when I go to work. In addition to what Clare has suggested I use list of different ingredients (not all at the same time though ;))

    Banana
    Peanut butter
    Natural yoghurt
    Salmon mousse
    Trout mousse
    Sausages and cheese mashed together

I freeze all of these overnight so it takes her longer to get through it :)

Our 15 week olds favourite toy is an empty 2 litre bottle. leave the cap on and don't squash it. He goes mental for them a the skit around all over the place particularly on hard floor a our patios. Completely free toy as we drink soda water. A bit of chewing eventually punctures them but then they turn into a tug toy until the next bottle is empty.

Yes Oscar has from time to time ran about wiht a bottle, as we tried frantically to get it off of him - as we didn't want him eating it (we don't put anything past him haha)

Poppy is the same hard plastic toys she will chew and eat the plastic, so its hard rubber toys now I got some really good ones just before Christmas, someone on here recommended a site for gun dog dummys cant remember the name...but Poppys best toy is a ball put in a sock tied in a knot she has hours of fun tossing it all over the place.

If he has the "de-stuffing soft toys" bug, then I can recommend charity shops or better still car-boot sales.
Alternatively, if you are visiting my part of Scotland, just give me a call ;)

Sorry to be a spoil sport but gundog dummies wouldn't last five minutes if left with a chewy puppy. It's not what they are designed for. They should never be left with a dog after a training session. :)

Yeah we rethought that idea as we are going to take Oscar to gundog training - we'll will just have to stick with the kong :)

Thanks Lois i'll have a look at that :)x
