Not a Labrador, but a health issue that many Labrador owners may face at some point. My little spaniel Meg went down with pyometra on Wednesday evening after a long day working in the field. She underwent emergency surgery yesterday. It was has been a difficult 24 hours but I am happy to report that she has come through the surgery well, and should make a full recovery. It has been a sobering experience nearly losing my 'best girl' at nine years old, and it has certainly made me think hard about whether or not to spay my other (younger) bitches in the next year or two. Re: A close shave Poor Meg, and poor you too. It must be very distressing for you. Hope she recovers quickly.
Re: A close shave Oh dear Pippa , how dreaddful for you and Meg too , its such a nasty thing for bitches to have, so very pleased that she has come through it all , what a relief for you .
Re: A close shave What an awful thing for you both to go through. Rest up meg and we wish you a very speedy recovery. Please take care, best wishes Helen & Charlie xxx
Re: A close shave Thanks for your kind wishes everyone, she is much better today. Busy zooming around and head butting us with her 'bucket' !
Re: A close shave Glad Meg is on the mend. The whole spay issue is really difficult. We never planned to have pups, and having an excapee male lab up the road were quite glad when our vet recommended an op before her first season. A vet friend subsequently said we should have waited until she had one season before doing it. Its really difficult as a non-doggie expert to know whats best. Glad about how we did it. Has done no harm as far as we know. Wish you (both) speedy recoveries - I recommend a large G&T, Pippa! Jacqui
