willow now 5 months and our garden is very water logged she wont go onto grass and using patio to wee and poo, we cant play out there so we are going out 3 times a day for short period. we are very lucky to live in a village and i can let her off within 1 min of being on a lead once we get to the farmers tracks. am we are out for about 15-20 mins (i power walk) pm (out for about 30 mins but with my 4 year old daughter who walks very very slow). before bed, qucik 10 mins on field. is this too much? our garden gets like thsi every year. also we see other dogs every walk and she plays with them, do i need to limit this? this morning she was having a lovely round around with another dog and got me thinking should i stop this and put her on a lead??? it is bad for her joints? but she is socialising?? any helpp please
Re: walking at 5 months (our garden water logged) That sounds find to me. You are not doing any 'forced exercise' (as my vet terms it) like running with your dog or having her run beside a bike. Those are the real no-no's for a pup. Off-lead time or slow walking for the durations you describe would not be a problem, in my opinion.
Re: walking at 5 months (our garden water logged) Sounds good to me too! I think the off-lead socializing is so important for a young dog; and with the ground water logged she's not doing any walking on hard surfaces, that's for sure!
Re: walking at 5 months (our garden water logged) My garden was so badly drained on London clay, I had the grass dug up, drainage sunk in, and the whole lot covered with weed suppressing mat and gravel. Best thing ever. A friend with kids did the same but used astro tuft! It's fab. And you can throw your lawn mower out too. That doesn't sound like too much exercise, no.
Re: walking at 5 months (our garden water logged) Before we planned on getting Amy we took down a massive hedge that separated the grass from our patio area. ( wasn't my choice, I liked it). I bet hubby will regret it if he saw the mud that was once lawn. ( he would see if he ever took her out! :)
