Willow last few ams waking at 5am ish instead of 6.30/7 cant pinpoint why. Heatingband water turned off at night. We are not waking her getting up. Can she be sleeping too much in day so not tired at night? Shes crated 3 hours in am while i am at work so i suppose sleeps. Then hour out of crate playing and lunch then crated another hour. When i get in we go for walk then she slewps then she sleeps! Asleep now. Could this be why? She goea out for a wee at 11pm
Re: too much sleep in day? I have been wondering the same about Amy. She is hardly left alone, but by 7 every night she is fast asleep. Sometimes in her create by her choice. So we worked out she can be asleep for hours!!!
Re: too much sleep in day? My understanding is that when labs aren't eating or playing, they are ....sleeping! Irritating getting up so early though. My cut off is 6am - before that I am grumpy Mummy Was the same with the kids. I blame it on the fact that almost the first thing I do when I get up is either go on a walk or feed her - hence her desire to wake me up as soon as possible!!

Could just be a blip,an annoying one I know or there could be a trigger that is waking her......a noise outside,a neighbors car?a light going on/off ?its the noise of golf buggies with us....sounds like your last toilet break is late enough.I agree with Jacqui,if there is no action in the house Dexter is asleep .....the spare time I have to do a bit of training with him might coincide with a deep old slumber but he's up and alert and ready for action the second I start getting the clicker/ treats out ....then he's back asleep 5 minutes after the action has finished,he will lie around chewing on a toy early eve time but then pretty much settles down on the couch in a slumber from about 7... Our usual time is 5.30 am ;D ( that was grim this morning after a busy weekend ;D)....we did have him trying his luck at 4.30 am when we got back from our first holiday away from him....now that is TOO early ,even for me!he just got a firm 'Quiet Dexter' from upstairs and he'd grumble and whine a bit but settle back down and by day 3 he was back to his one bark at 5.15.......just on case my alarm hasn't gone off : I stuck to the rule of never going to him though if he is making a noise ,he's got to be quiet before I let him out x

Re: too much sleep in day? Charlie doesn't sleep much during the day. Just a couple of hours. He spends the rest of the time saying "mum, I'm bored" :. In the mornings though, and at 10pm when it's time for him to move from his bed in the TV room to his bed in his pen, we cannot get him out of bed. OH picks up the back of his bed and tips him out...must video that...he slithers out onto the floor and sleepily rolls over for a tummy rub. Can take us 5 minutes to get him on his feet. Maybe there is something in the not too much sleep during the day, and sleep at night. Dunno.
Re: too much sleep in day? Otis has always slept an awful lot, seems like its nearly all day, apart from walk play and meal times. He goes to bed about 7 ish, and gets up about 6.30, then its back to sleep again. Oh dear i wonder if this is okay ? Should I be stimulating him more so he dosent sleep ? At the moment I want him to sleep a lot, as he is being crated a lot , and needs to sleeep in his crate.
Re: too much sleep in day? The same thing has happened with Oscar afew times we have found the best thing to do is to leave him whne he wakes up too early in the morning or 5 and eventually after afew days to just goes back into his old rountine.
Re: too much sleep in day? It's 7.30am, I've been up for an hour and Charlie is flat on his back in bed, refusing to move! I'll try get a vid of the bed tipping to get him up routine. Gosh, they are all so very different!
Re: too much sleep in day? I have come to the same conclusion. Due to work Widgeon sleeps most of the day then is highly active all evening, goes straight to bed after an 11pm walk/wee and is up at about 5.30ish. He whines just load and often enough to stop us falling back to sleep until I get up at 6. As soon as he hears me he lays down quietly and waits. Weekends when he's out all day he often sleeps later. I spoke to other lab owners on a shoot on sat (it happened to be a topic of conversation at lunch) and it seems they were all woken just before there normal get-up time until the dogs were about 3yrs old !! Oh well only another 28 months to go (840 mornings )
