Marley our 9.5 week old choc girl puppy had her first vet visit last Thursday. I mentioned some frustration with frequency of peeing as she would go every 5 to 10 minutes after she drank for about an hour. She attributed it to her being small. She was 7.6 atlate 8 weeks. This morning she peed in he pen and we noticed it was tinted brown. A bit later she did it again and it was reddish. I used a syringe and got a sample and we were off to the emergency vet. In the office waiting room she peed a bright red puddle and moments later two quarter sized thick clots. I panicked as they called the Dr out to see. Testing came back with massive infection and we started right away on antibiotics. $222 bill. Poor girl. I guess it had been building up over last week and a half and i assumed it was her tiny bladder. Does this seem really early for a uti? I'm worried this might be an indicator of future issues. Hoping that when this clears up her daytime accidents will improve as she us doing great at night in her crate. Up twice a night and right back in. Good news is she is up to 11.2 pounds and will be 10 weeks on Tuesday.
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ Can't really help as neither of my dogs have had a UTI. I wish marley a speedy recovery anyway, give her lots of extra cuddles from me
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ Oh poor love hope the ABs work quickly! No experience of this here, just sending best wishes for your little girl.

Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ Sorry to hear about your pups UTI, hope it clears up soon. Otis had a UTI a few weeks ago, he was given pennycillin, and it cleared up quite quickly, he was eight and a half months though so quite a bit older.
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ Sorry to hear about that. The antibiotics should clear it up quickly and hopefully toilet training will be easier afterwards. Please keep us updated.
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ Poor pup. Hope she is ok and I hope the meds help quickly and your house training is made easier
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ Poor little girl , it must have been painful for her to pass clots too , good for you in getting help so quickly , she will soon be fine again x
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ She's had 4 doses and her urine is clear again. 14 days total. It was a scary sight for sure. Even the vet was surprised at the big clots. She is such a sweet girl and I can already tell she has us and her 4 Human big brothers over the moon in love.
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ So good that it's clearing up quickly She sounds like she's stolen your hearts for sure
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ I feel for you! Penny had urine infections constantly! She had about four or five by the time she was six months old! It was only on her last one she was diagnosed with an inverted or tucked vulva. Next time you take your girl to the vet get them to check this out as most vets won't pick it up unless they're specifically looking for it (we saw three different ones before Penny's was noticed). Luckily this condition corrects itself through having a season so if she does have it it's not a major issue. You can also give cranberry supplements and extra water in her meals to reduce the frequency of infections - worked like a charm for Penny, she didn't have another from six months old and had her season last October and all seems normal again.
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ Ah bless her, poor Marley. Such a shame when they're so poorly, so young. Lucky for her, you're so attentive, and picked up on it. I'm sure it'll be beaten in no time with antibiotics. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ This is going to sound strange. Thank you for posting about your UTI. If I hadn't seen it, I don't think I would have twigged what was going on when Molly started peeing a lot. I got her to the Vet's promptly and I'm sure that has prevented it getting much worse. Good luck with your peeing puppy
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ Marley is starting her 2nd week of antibiotics and her potty training is going great now. I think that was her issue. Only 4 accidents since Monday. I did do some researching after the comment about the recessed vulva and I definitely think she has one based on pics I could find. Will mention it at next appt. I bought sind cranberry tablets to try maybe once a day. Did anyone feed them in cheese like I do her antibiotic?
Re: Marley has a UTI at 9 1/2 weeks :/ I bought cranberry capsules from holland and Barrett. They're the type you could open and sprinkle on food if necessary but I just put the whole capsule in her food and she just wolfed it down with her kibble. I'm glad you did some research into a recessed vulva, it doesn't seem like it's very well known as I saw three different vets about Penny's recurrent UTI's before it was noticed. If I had had her speyed at 6 months old like the original plan the condition never would have corrected and she could have had a life of constant urine infections! Luckily the swelling of the vulva during a season kind of 'pops' it into its normal place and bam! No more UTI's! Hope your pup gets better soon!
