You know how easy it is to worry... is my pup growing properly? Is she too fat / too thin / too tall / too short?

I had a phone call this morning from Brew's breeder to say she was in the area and could she call in and say hello. Brew and her litter sister played together in the garden... and they are EXACTLY the same size. ;D

Of course, Brew is much better looking. I'm allowed to say that, because her breeder did too!
    ;D ;D ;D

Thats lovely Clare , I think its only natural to worry about them , especially when they are young as we want so much to do the right thing at all times . Sams breeder lives about an hour and a half from me on Dartmoor , we took him back to see them when he was about nine months old, he was much bigger than his Mum even then , but it was lovely to see his Grandmother and Aunt at the same time too , glad you feel happier now :)

Oh that's lovely! We have been back to see Poppy's mum, and her sister, too.

You guessed it - she is much more beautiful... ;)

That's what you want - a controlled trial in which a sibling is raised in an alternative environment solely for the purposes of comparison and reassurance re. your doggie husbandry practices :)

Brew would have been the more intelligent of the two as well, I expect? Definitely has to be the prettiest :)

I admit to a moment of blind panic in case Brew was a disappointment to her in any way... ??? Particularly as the breeder very, very nearly kept Brew as her pup, before deciding to stick with her usual black.

Was lovely to see that she has grown just like her sister! As to intelligence, well... I'm sure Brew is every bit as bright as her sister, but the poor girl is stuck with me, and her sister lives with someone who trains to trial standards. Brew does a great snuggle up on the sofa though, something her sis will never get the chance to master!! ;D ;D

Clare, what a lovely opportunity to ask questions and see Brews sibbling. I am still in touch with Hattie's breeder 6 years on. Glad you had a lovely time :)

    Ah, that's lovely. :) :) :)

I remember finding out Charlie's sister (kept by the breeder) was exactly the same weight as him - it was a big relief. I think he has over taken her now though.

It's not a great photo of either of them, but here they are...

Brew's in disgrace this morning, mind. There used to be a plug on my hairdryer. Used to be... ??? Fortunately it wasn't plugged in, and now, it's just not plugged.

Oh, they look super! Yes, definitely related… (but Brew is of course more beautiful).

This is Poppy and her sister - also not a great photo:

Lovely dogs both of them. Quite hard to tell them apart except that the one on the right is slightly taller sitting down. ;D

    Which one is Brew?

It's funny, I love black dogs and black labs in particular but you can see in these photos that the black dogs really don't photograph as well as their siblings. Heidrun could be right and could well contribute to poor take up of black dogs in rescue :(

Luckily these dogs are beautiful and loved in happy homes ;D

    Re: All my questions answered

Brew would like to point out that she is not in fact shorter sitting down - merely impatient, hence the butt hovering stance which makes it appear as if she is slightly shorter!

Love the pic of Poppy and her sister, but then, I love any pic which features Poppy!

I think you're right, Barbara, it can be harder to pick out expression in a photo of a black dog - but the one of Riley in the boot next to his intended is a superb shot!!

I think they sometimes lose their lovely features in a photo don't they? You can't see Poppy's sisters nose or eyes .that said I've seen so many beautiful photos of the black boys and girls so it's not always the case.
There is a 'senior' pet re home scheme in Dubai ( makes me sad that there is a need for such a scheme ) and not so long ago they had a specific 'black' day where all the animals available for foster and adoption where black.on the advertising flyer they mentioned that black animals are harder to rehome :(
