Otis has the runs, think it might be linked to the fact he stole a packet of treats out of my pocket, also Ive just changed his food, I got sold some new food at this pet shop that was meant to be super healthy and good for dogs. Ive cleaned up two huge puddles of diarreah, sorry cant spell it. It started this morning. I havent fed him tonight, am I right in thinking you can starve a dog for 24 hours if they have the runs ? I was going to give him boiled chicken and rice tomorrow night. Im thinking that starving him, will help him get rid of the bug if thats what it is ? This has of course slowed down the toilet training, as he dosent seem to have much control over it, poor Otis. It is very liquid, yuck, so am leaving his water bowl down so he keeps hydrated, is there anything else i should be doing ? Feels awful not giving him anything t eat, but know its to do him good. Thanks, Maggie

Oh Maggie, sorry poor Otis is unwell. Charlie had sickness and diarrhea a week or so ago and the advise was to starve for 24 hours and obviously only water, I fed 3 small meals a day of steamed chicken and rice until all symptoms had disappeared and gradually re-introduced his kibble. Also the advise was to buy Pro Kolin which you can get from your vet or online, I got mine on Amazon with next day delivery and it worked a treat. I hope he gets better soon. xx

Oh Maggie, you are not having much luck with this, are you? Poor Otis - hope 24hrs off food and then bland chicken and rice help. I'd be wary of going back to that new food afterwards too...

Oh dear Maggie - just what you don't need :( :(
Did you take the food changeover slow enough?
I did 1/3 of breakfast new food for 2 days, then breakfast and tea for 2 days, then moved on to 2/3 breakfast, 1/3 tea and so on?
I try to do a change over 7-10 days.

Well my pooch is sick I don't feed for a couple meals, then do the chicken/rice thing, just a little, to see how it goes. Hope it clears up soon....one day this will all be a distant memory.... :p

Sorry to hear Otis is poorly. Get well soon Otis!

I don't know how old Otis is but when Meg was a puppy it took a long time to find the right dried food for her. She too suffered from diarrhoea. Eventually the only dried food she could tolerate was Pedigree.

She was ok once she got older and now has Arden Grange Light to keep her weight under control.
