Oh my goodness.. Did the vet get a stool sample to check? One of the dogs in my neighborhood got giardia recently and was very poorly for a while. Once they'd worked out what it was, and given the right medication, she picked up fine and is completely back to normal now. Do hope poor little Harley is feeling better soon. Such a worry. :(

After giving Hatley her paste yesterday afternoon the ABs last night she basically slept from 4.30pm til bedtime, only waking for some food and the odd 5 mins when she wanted to play, but didn't have the energy :(. She ended up sleeping on our bed last night as she was soooooo restless on hers......I know I said not on the bed, but have caved as she is so poorly ::)

Today she has wanted breakfast and lunch :) rice and chicken still. She took her paste well this morning, but tried to spit out the ABs, so had to cover it in peanut butter!

She has had a few bouts of diarrhoea and still a bit lethargic :(

Karen - they didn't take a stool sample, taking her back Friday to get checked again so if she's the same then I will take one :)

Barbara - it is horrible isn't it :(. Big hugs to you and Riley. Hope his gets better quickly xx

I've given Riley your hug - he says thanks!

He's still hungry which I think is good but same as Harley no sign of poos firming up yet. We've got pro-kolin paste and special food that's gentle on his stomach. Riley was vomiting at the weekend at least that's stopped! Thought he was ok so went training and now we've got the other end on the go :( Vet thinks it's the same thing just making it's way through so fingers crossed he starts to get better soon.

He's doing a lot of sleeping too hopefully that's helping their bodies sort themselves out.

Give your girl a hug from us, hope things look up for you both soon.

Trouble with antibiotics is that they can cause the runs as they can kill off the good bacteria in the gut.

With humans it is often recommended that you take live yogurt to prevent this.

Does "The Brains Trust" (how I think of the more knowledgable senior members) think this is a good idea?

To, hopefully, give you a smile. I have just had the most enraged stare from Molly. She has taken to dashing onto the veg plot, pulling up the defunct Runner Bean roots and munching on them. This rotten killjoy went out and pulled them all up. She went out, did a circuit of where 'her' roots were and gave me a disgusted glare when she discovered them gone.

Thinking of you. You must both be heartily sick of this by now.

Kate certainly recommended this for us on a previous occurrence (Riley is a sensitive boy  )

The paste we have has pro-biotics etc in it but we'll probably use some yoghurt for a few days once it's run out assuming we don't still need full on meds.

But more importantly I'm totally outraged on Molly's behalf that you've ruined her fun, no wonder you got the hard stare LOL ;)

Some promising lumps this morning and no desperate calls for an emergency in the night so fingers crossed!

Staying on the sensitive food for a day or two more before I reintroduce any of his normal kibble. No class today I'm off to Nottingham for a meeting, hoping he'll be fine by Monday though.

    How's Harley? Hope she's feeling brighter :D

So sorry Harley and Riley are poorly and wishing them a speedy recovery. xxx

I don't want to sound like old fashionedn but the best way to treat these tummy bugs is to starve for 24 hours just like you would a child, I personally feel any food is feeding the bug and will prolong it. I do believe Heidrun confirmed my thoughts on this when Charlie was poorly.

    Get better soon. x

So glad Riley is starting to get better :)

Harley seemed a bit more lively last night. She hasn't had a poo at all okay so am waiting to see. She is still on rice and chicken and is starting to get her appetite back, so hopefully she will continue to improve :)

Hoping Riley and Harley are feeling a lot better now, poor loves .

Sam had a nasty tummy bug about 18 months ago , he had to have a very strong anti bacterial anti fungal medicine which is when I started to give him natural live yoghurt with his food .
Due to the disgusting habits of both our dogs at times , I now give each of them a spoon full of yoghurt as a matter of course , they will take it straight from the spoon or in food , whether its actually doing any good , I havent a clue but they like it ;)

Riley too! Oh no, all our dogs seems to be getting this tummy bug. If they were kids we'd say is was something "going around". i wonder if that could be the case?

Hope for a speedy recovery for both.

The vet certainly said he's seen a lot of dogs with gastro issues in the last week or so.
We did starve Riley for 24 hours but it didn't help, his poor stomach was so irritated as soon as he had anything he's be sick. He had some injections to settle his stomach and seemed fine on Monday but then the other end went  another night with no need to go out so hopefully we're on the up!

Hope Harley is feeling better too, sending her some cuddles x

    Re: Poorly girl

Good news :D........Harley is on the mend at last. She was asking for more food last night which is a massive improvement. No more runny poos either.......not quite back to normal, but nearly. Been to the vets today for a check up and they agree she is looking much better. She has lost just over half a kilo in a week, but will prob make up for this. We are going to complete the course of antibiotics and slowly put her back onto her food over the next 5-7 days. :)

Thank you all for all your support over the past few weeks, it has meant a lot, especially those of you that are going through long term health issues with your own pups/dogs. Xxxxxxxx
