Re: Rise in working dog tail trauma Oh I've lived through an adult docking......horrible and miserable :'( In the reading and pictures I came across whilst researching Dex's op I saw some horrible images of damage to working dogs tails ......it made me understand how preventative it can be in a puppy who will grow up to be hunting and retrieving through dense undergrowth....before I just had a blanket opinion that it was cruel. It is unnecessary for cosmetics for show dogs ,a dog that isn't working shouldn't go through it for anything at any age xxx
Re: Rise in working dog tail trauma I too am firmly pro docking for dogs who work and equally as anti for show dogs to be docked ... the blurring line gets complicated in a breed like German Wirehaired Pointers where so many dogs are both worked and shown. It was one of the things that attracted me to the breed that there was no difference in working or show type and they genuinely are dual purpose dogs
Re: Rise in working dog tail trauma You learn a lot on here. A couple of years ago I would have said docking was cruel. Full stop. Have been re-educated, and in a sensible rational way rather than in a didactic way.
