Morning all, well Charlie and I had an eventful pavement walk this morning. We were chased by 3 yapping Whippet's snapping at Charlie's legs, we literally had to run quite a distance to get away. The "Lady of the Manor" seems it's right and fitting to leave her gates open and let her dogs chase people, I shall be going back to have a word with her later  I was really proud of Charlie he kept close to me and never made a sound not even a bark, although he looked worried, lots of praise as we ran even though I was quite out of breath

Then we met Ralph our absolutely lovely postman and Charlie didn't mug him, all feet firmly on the ground :) as a reward Ralph gave him a lovely large doggie biscuit that he always has in his post van :) We chatted for about 5 minutes and Charlie was as good as gold.

Oh and Charlie did really well, again, with his clicker loose lead walking, not brilliant but really good so we end on positive :)

    xx

Good boy Charlie! (My Charlie says he thinks small barky dogs are horrible, and posties are fab, too).

I just hope the experience with the 3 whippets won't affect him now with those dogs or any others ???

Have to say I am pretty proud of him :*

Sorry but on reflection does anyone think that I should have stood still and not ran? maybe I made matters worse and worried Charlie with my reactions ???

Yes, maybe it would have been better to stand your ground - perhaps the running made them chase you more.

    Well done Charlie :)

In hindsight it might of been better to stay still or go to the house they belong to and knock the door!!

It's all so easy in hindsight though, isn't it? At the moment when you think you are going to get bitten at any moment, all you want to do is get out of there...

    Re: That was eventful!!

I thought so, I did want to go and knock on her door immediately, but those whippets were barking crazily and trying to surround Charlie and I didn't want to make matters worse by then going onto their property with Charlie as I had no way of telling how the yappers would have reacted, so just thought we would get the hell out, I did stamp my feet and yell at them and they backed off half way round the horseshoe we walk. Just hope I didn't make matters worse for my boy :( the benefit of hindsight … x

I'm hope Charlie is ok. I'm sure he will think its a game you were playing or something? Hindsight would be useful, but I agree, at the time it's difficult to know what to do for the best x

Well done Charlie he is getting so good Helen you must be so pleased with him. :D

Im afraid I tend to shout back at loose yapping dogs like an angry farmer as in Get out of it, go on whilst beating a hasty retreat I might add. ;)

Im the same....i tell loose dogs charging at my two on lead to Do One ( normally stronger language) and they tend to disappear sharpish...helen think it depends how anxious Charlie was, cuillis behaviourist told me to overtly take charge and get her out of situations with other dogs if she looked really stressed, though poor cuilli was in a bit of a flappy stage at that point dont think Charlie sounds like that...

That's interesting what your behaviourist told you Debsie, so I nearly did the right thing even if I did run ::) Charlie just looks anxious and starts whining poor boy :(
