I have read the lots of very distressing posts on here about poor dogs with hip or elbow dysplasia. All so heart wrenching and sometimes nothing that can be done, and sometimes clearly some very devoted people and very brave dogs showing much resilience, especially when it's impossible to explain to the dog what's going on. I feel very lucky with my dog, Lady. She had both elbows operated on exactly 12 months ago tomorrow and I think that as a full 12 months has passed by and she is fit and agile, and has been through a fully active shooting season, all with no sign of the limping that kicked this off, that the operations have been a complete success. Hopefully she'll get several years of life free from arthritis as a result. Just wanted to record how grateful I am that my vet and the specialist he referred us to have helped Lady so much. Feeling very lucky, and I've got a very special girl.
Re: 12 months today from Lady's ED operations What a lovely post to read David , 12 months, my goodness where does time go ? So pleased that you can live life to the full now with your very special girl
Re: 12 months today from Lady's ED operations It is lovely to see that positive 'twelve months on' post... it's interesting to think about what - if anything - Lady remembers of it all! I think she's busy having too much fun to remember it at all ;D ;D Clare
Re: 12 months today from Lady's ED operations Thats great David, Lady sounds very sweet, I wonder how the two little pups with severe dysplasia are getting on, last update want bad at all. Oatsy s parents had good scores, and Im keeping him slim and fit, so hopefuly we will be okay. Licks and belly rubs to lady.
Re: 12 months today from Lady's ED operations I'm sure your post will bring hope to those whose dogs are soon to or have recently faced the same thing
Re: 12 months today from Lady's ED operations That is very good and encouraging news for other Lab owners who face the same problem ;D
Re: 12 months today from Lady's ED operations Thanks all. Unfortunately not everyone has the same good fortune - hence why I feel very lucky.
Re: 12 months today from Lady's ED operations How fantastic David, I was just thinking about Lady the other day and has well she has done after the operation. Full marks to the surgeon, to you, and to Lady!

Unfortunately not everyone has the same good fortune - hence why I feel very lucky. [/quote] Ah that's very true David but letting a everyone know about her ' anniversary' will help a lot of people who are maybe not feeling so positive and possibly even very scared when faced with a dysplasia diagnosis. Lady is a very resilient girl, she's come through a lot and it's lovely thAt you enjoy her so much and are exploring her potential. Best wishes Angela x
Re: 12 months today from Lady's ED operations So nice to read the improvement having surgery has been on Lady
Re: 12 months today from Lady's ED operations Fab update. I think that the vast majority of dogs who have major ops like this for joint problems go on to have a much improved life. The period of recuperation is tiny compared to the long, normal, happy life that follows as a result.
Re: 12 months today from Lady's ED operations Lady is a lucky girl to have you both David. Lovely to hear how well she is doing
Re: 12 months today from Lady's ED operations Good news and comforting to learn that there is a life after Dysplasia. Roger
