Scout has worms!!! :( I know it's a fact of life with puppies....I'm more concerned about my daughter contracting them...we don't let Scout lick her or anything but he does roam around the house and she does too and falls sometimes...we try to keep her hands clean as best we can. I'm a HUGE germa-phobe - so I'm constantly washing my hands and her hands. He goes to the vet on Saturday so I'm sure they'll treat him....

Do we need to wash his bedding and everything too? Or should we wait until the worms are gone? How long does it usually take for them to go away?

Yep, worms are yuck ! Dont be suprised if when treated your pup, has them on his poo or worse throws them up, its the pup getting rid of them, they are easily treated in a few days. Keep washing those hands, your doing the right thing there for your little one. Scout may have a swollen belly too, which is a wormy tummy. They are really common and really gross! Maggie x

Yeah - we'll probably wash it up once he's cured just to be on the safe side.

There is no need to wait until Saturday. Just buy some panacur oral puppy paste wormer. You can collect this from the receptionist at the vets, or buy it at country stores like SCATS, or online. The main risk to children is in playing on ground where puppies have been to the toilet, because the worm eggs can survive in the soil for long periods of time.

With human worms (sorry, no experience with the puppy ones unlike Maggie) the advice is to wash bedding - and underwear :D - and to wash hands after toileting and before eating or preparing food. Also keeping nails short and scrubbing under nails.
So I guess I would go with the bedding wash. Particularly if your daughter also uses the dog bed (well mine does ::) )
In humans, the worms "come out at night" and lay eggs around the *ahem* tail end - not sure if puppies are quite so refined.
    Not sure if this helps.

Lol what a delightful thread to read over breakfast. Milly is due today for worming going to do it right now. Haha

Maybe I should do the kids too. Hehe just had visions of sticking tablets down their throat. Lol wouldn't that be fun.

LOL - yeah probably should put a disclaimer on this post about it being a gross subject.

My daughter doesn't use the puppy bed - thank goodness! Once he's free and clear of the worms we will wash his bedding. We had his vet check a fecal sample today- and they confirmed worms (like we couldn't see them or something?!?!) he had a dewormer pill on Sunday (or maybe Monday?) that might be why he's passing the worms now? He'll probably have another treatment on Saturday when he goes to the vet. We are also going to get treatments for our other pets just to stop that in its tracks.

Hubby is upset with me because I'm freaking out about this....but I can't help it lol it gives me the heebie jeebies! I liken it to your kids having lice! Makes my skin crawl.

I totally understand. I'm a mum of seven and that sort of stuff just freaks me out too. Lol I can handle it all fine but it still creeps me out. ;D
