Has anyone used one or know of anyone who uses one? we are looking into getting one for barley, but there are many different ones out on the market so if anyone has got any personal experiences with one that would be great.
Re: Magnetic dog collar I have no experience with these whatsoever but I believe they are supposed to work in the same way as magnetic bracelets for humans - to help with arthritis etc. I would be interested to see if anyone can recommend them.
Re: Magnetic dog collar Do you think they work Annabelle? If they are not expensive, well, no harm either way. But if they are expensive, you might just have a search round for some hard evidence (you may have already done so, of course).
Re: Magnetic dog collar I think at the moment anything is worth trying with him. The prices vary from £15-£35, so not overly expensive. You can also get magnetic dog coats and beds, but not a good idea with barley as he hates wearing coats and has a tendency to chew his beds, and the beds are expensive costing around £60, which is too much for a bed that will get shredded to pieces with in a month of buying it.
Re: Magnetic dog collar Well I am kinda dubious to be honest. I don't see how a magnetic field would affect the inflammation associated with arthritis. Naturally, though, you are keen to do all you can to make him comfortable.....
Re: Magnetic dog collar This is a good article about them: http://www.vetinfo.com/magnetic-arthritis-dog-collar-products-examined.html#b and here is another one: http://www.magnetic-products-store.com/about_magnetic_therapy_care_dogs_cats.html The main reason we are considering a magnetic collar is that it can do no harm to him, and it is worth a shot instead of pumping him full of drugs to try and make him feel better. Although he will eventually be put on pain medication i do not want him to rely on them, when we can use other things that might make him feel better.
Re: Magnetic dog collar Well, prescription anti-arthritic medication like Pentosan and its latest incarnations have been shown, through medical trials, to relieve pain and even assist in joint rehabilitation. So....I'd be going for something that you actually know will improve your dog's quality of life.
Re: Magnetic dog collar Hi Annabelle, I got one for Meg a few years ago on advice from hydrotherapist. It's called bioflow and if I'm honest I don't know if it helps or not. I certainly haven't seen any real improvement but then she has regular hydro and I think that's what helps her. Sorry to be negative. Jen xx
Re: Magnetic dog collar Annabelle, I have arthritis affecting quite a number of joints! I would not even consider a magnetic bracelet... I manage my joints through a sensible and healthy diet, exercise and painkillers/anti-inflammatories when I need them. I do understand that you want to do everything you can to help Barley, but I do not believe that a magnetic collar will provide any relief. I would strongly suggest you save yourself that money right there - and put it towards other expenses that will inevitably occur. Clare
