    Interesting.
This wasn't quite what I was expecting to read somehow. Thought it was going to be something equivalent to depot contraception given to women (which is of course reversible) rather than something - a large dose of female hormones?? - injected into each testicle at a crucial stage of testicular development.
The article certainly raises several issues.
Do you know Pippa if there is a subsequent test of sterility in the same way as post male vasectomy?

That's interesting. I don't think I would ever trust any form of chemical neutering though... One of the kennel I worked in tried it on a pair of entire male and female dogs who couldn't bear to be seperated (due to versions reasons we were unable to neuter them properly at this point). I don't remember what it was called that we gave them but it wasn't a permanent thing and they had to have injections every month. But my point is it didn't work - the female came into season and subsequently developed a pyrometra.

Plus as the article mentions - the cost of this injection would probably be the same as actual neutering anyway, so why not just get the dog properly castrated?

I used chemical castration once many years back on an imported male Giant Schnauzer. It was done so that we could gauge if actual castration would help the old fella live a more peaceful life. I noticed nil effect but did wonder if it might have been more use on a younger dog as Yanni was 12 at the time.

Sorry Jacqui, I don't have any other info on it at the moment. Lochan might know?

I'm interested in alternatives to castration - I've been swayed by arguments that testosterone has helpful, as well as annoying, effects.

I'm not that interested in this though, after reading the article!
