... Will out in the blood, so they say. After hearing that there would only be bitches and one very young male dog at training yesterday, I decided to take Poppy. It was a partial disaster - she was all over the place with heelwork, though she calmed down (thank goodness!) for the sit, down and stay exercises. But then - they got the Dummies out, and for the first time I could see the real difference between my little girl and the beautiful, big show-bred dogs around us. They bumbled around, happily trundled after the Dummy, and (mostly) brought it back to their owner. Pops on the other hand had her attention fixed on the trainer from the moment she saw the Dummies in her hand. She sat, quiet but tensed, by me until I gave her the command, then she was off like a missile from a launcher, straight to the Dummy, then full speed back to me and great return, six times. The trainer was full of compliments, and so too were the other owners, once they had got their jaws back from the dropped position! ;D I was SOOOOOOOOO proud! Now THAT's breeding!!! Result!!!
Re: What's bred in the bone... Well done Poppy You are right Karen, about the breeding but it also takes training, so well done to you too Its wonderful when their passion for retrieving shines through like that , I had Sam on the beach the other day , he walked past other dogs without so much as a glance because I had his dummy , it sure does make you feel proud
Re: What's bred in the bone... Well done Karen! Poppy has the instincts, but you are the one that has nurtured and cherished them.
Re: What's bred in the bone... Hi Karen, Poppy is a great girl and obviously trained sooooo well by you. Well done both of you. Helen x
Re: What's bred in the bone... Thank you so much for your lovely comments! Here is the girl in action:
Re: What's bred in the bone... That's a fantastic picture. How do you manage to do the training and take such great photos at the same time? I'm always scrabbling round for things/taking off gloves/diving in the wrong pocket by which time my photo opportunity has invariably gone, and that's just going for a walk.
Re: What's bred in the bone... Awww, thanks everybody! I cannot claim credit for the photo - there was a keen amateur photographer at training that day. I think it's a brilliant photograph, and now have it as my screensaver at work! ;D
Re: What's bred in the bone... And here was me, thinking what a fantastic photographer you are Karen and wondering how the heck you managed to get the photo
Re: What's bred in the bone... Wow that is a great picture. Poppy is so beautiful and has such a lovely colouring. Helen x
