Im sorry if this has been coverd before, but Im a little worried. I have been feeding Otis half a mug full of kibble, which is approx 100 grms, twice a day. However I have looked on the packet of the food i have changed him over to, which is called simply, and the lowest amount for his weight is 225 g, which is just over two mug fulls ! So this evening I gave him a whole mug full. His weight is on the slim side, at 19kgs, he is eleven months. Im wondering if I should just stick to the half mug full, twice a day, with lots of treats, or switch him to the higher amount ? Im also wondering if I have damaged his growth by not feeding him enough, eeek ! He isnt small though, about average, but still puppyish, he hasnt filled out yet. Thanks, Maggie x
Re: food again Maggie , when you say that the recommended amount is 225, is this per day maybe ? If so , then you have been feeding just the right amount as I always find that manufacturers tend to advise us to feed a higher amount than our dogs need, for obvious reasons I wouldnt worry too much , slighter leaner is much better than overweight
Re: food again Hi Maggie, I am not an expert on this subject and feel there are no hard and fast rules as each dog is different. In my case it was a question of trial and error but eventually we arrived at a regime where we feed him, 100gms of kibble plus 30gms of tinned meat twice a day and his weight has remained constant at 35kgs. The important thing is not to overfeed the dog; weigh him regularly and keep a note of his weight. The advice on the food packaging is a guide and if you think he looks a bit thin, start by feeding him 100gms twice a day and then increasing the kibble by 50 kgs. Take small steps, watch his weight and good luck! Roger
Re: food again Hi Julie, the food was recommended to me, it is called symply, adult, salmon and potato, and for a 20kg, dog it is recommended you give 225g to 335g a day. Thing is, Otis does look fine, he has a waist and his ribs, can be felt, but you cant see them. I am quite generous with his treats throughout the day, he has homemade ones at the moment. I havent felt the need to measure out his treats, as he hasnt put on weight. Thanks, Maggie x

Just under the recommended amount, plus treats, looking good...all seems well.
