Do they need any treatment do you think ? Its Millie , from when the dog pinned her down and had a go a couple of days back , I had immediately noticed a nick on her lip and thought that this was all . This morning Sam and Millie had a swim and because she is long haired, its only when she was soaking wet that I saw two bite wounds on one of her front legs , they look clean enough to me so should I just leave them alone ? She is such a tough little cookie , never made a sound about them, they dont look infected
Re: Bite wounds ? O No! What a horrible dog to have bitten Millie! I suppose, if they don't look bad enough to need stitches and don't look infected or anything like that, keeping them clean and letting them heal would be the thing. That's what I'd do for a dog bite on a human, anyway.
Re: Bite wounds ? With puncture wounds, I'd just keep an eye to make sure an abscess doesn't form Kate. If she can lick them and keep them open then that will help drain them so they can heal from the bottom up
Re: Bite wounds ? Oh no, poor Millie, what a trooper for not complaining about the bites. I would leave it but monitor if they look clean and not infected. Hope Millie is ok xx
Re: Bite wounds ? Thank you , they do look ok , Im glad that licking them will help because thats just what she`s doing
Re: Bite wounds ? I know I was out of the loop a bit over the weekend, but how did I miss Millie got hurt?im so sorry Kate, hope she is ok in herself apart from the bite marks, good grief x
Re: Bite wounds ? She is fine in herself thanks Angela , I got her out amongst other dogs the following day and she was alright, I shall just avoid this one like the plague from now on because with the size difference, it could do her some serious damage
Re: Bite wounds ? Puncture wounds are best kept open as Pippa says so they heel from the bottom. If they scab over they can become infected and turn into an abscess. It happened to Murphy. He got a dog bite puncture wound just above his tail from next doors alsation but we didn't know and of course a Labrador has quite thick hair above the tail so we couldn't see it. I only found it after he started shivering with a temperature. If the wounds look like they need cleaning you can use hibiscrub. That's what the vet told me to use as that won't dry it up. It's possibly the one time you want a dog to lick its wound and keep it open! :
Re: Bite wounds ? I shall keep a very close eye on the wounds . Bless her heart she is so tiny but such a tough nut , never made a sound when I examined her, now had it been Sam , I swear he would have taken to his bed for a week
Re: Bite wounds ? Aw bless little Millie she had to be a tough nut but I don't think that's a bad thing xx
Re: Bite wounds ? I missed this too...poor but brave little Millie. i hope her wounds heal well and quickly. cuillin and brodick send her licks
Re: Bite wounds ? Bless her brave little soul. Sounds like she knows what she's about though - good girl x
Re: Bite wounds ? Poor girl Hope you get the chance to tell the owner about what their dog really did...
