I don't normally post on a Sunday, but was answering a nice letter that I received and it turned itself into an article. So here it is.

I have never owned more than one dog simply because for me one's enough! However, when our last Labrador was 13 and clearly at the end of his life we took the decision to have another dog and bought young Benson. It was the best decision we ever made since Winston (the old dog) enjoyed the company of a puppy and we think extended his life and when he died his replacement was already part of the family.

After losing our 4 year old lab Teddy, my 13 year old lab Fudge was bereft and wouldn't go out unless someone with another dog called for her. As soon as Buddy (now 5 months) joined our family, she was so much happier! Age doesn't really seem to matter.... But I do ensure my older dog gets plenty of rest time, away from Buddy (especially if he's in a boisterous mood!)
