Re: Mass Cell Tumours It's been quite a while since I last posted or even visited the site, saying bye to Pickles was the hardest thing I have ever had to do but I consoled myself knowing it was also the right thing to do for him. Our vet was wonderful and pickles went to sleep cuddling me and his teddy that he took to bed every night. The last 4 months have been pretty tough and the house has been so quiet. I decided to write to Pickles' breeder and tell her about the issues Pickles had, she had just had another litter and invited me to go and visit...we now have a very lively 11 week puppy called Riley There is a connection to Pickles (great grandad) and the house now feels like a home again. Thank you to all members who posted messages of support, they really did keep me going. Not sure how to attach pictures but if somebody could let me know, I'll upload and image of Pickles and Riley. H
Re: Mass Cell Tumours So sorry and sad that you parted with Pickles, but it was the kindest decision you could make, albeit the hardest one . How wonderful that you have a little one, a wonderful tribute to Pickles and will bring much joy I`m sure . That 4 months must have been so difficult for you :'( I hope your new addition is helping you to adjust....its lovely to have that connection to Pickles too. Re: Mass Cell Tumours I've just come across this post. I'm so sorry you lost Pickles. Our cocker spaniel Jake had the same type of tumour and had a toe removed. Sadly about a year later the cancer returned and he also developed haemolytic anaemia secondary to the cancer. We had him put to sleep on 26 April - 2 days before his 11th birthday. It's heartbreaking. I was determined not to have another dog straight away but I also couldn't cope with the empty house feeling so in June we got Winnie the chocolate lab - the house certainly isn't empty now! Re: Mass Cell Tumours I just saw this thread and wanted to tell you, along with everyone else, how sorry I am that you and Pickles had to go through this. Even when you know it's the last, best, thing you can do for your dog, it's still so very, very hard. I'm glad you decided to bring home the puppy, especially since there is a direct connection with Pickles. I've been "lucky" that the cancers I've dealt with have hit my dogs when at an advanced age (13 and 15), so I haven't had to accept the loss of so many potential years with them. My current eldest, Molly, at 14 was mis-diagnosed with osteosarcoma about 4 months ago (thank God I didn't jump into aggressive treatment!) and now recently, with liver disease. Having my other two helps tremendously and Riley should bring much joy and light into your world. Pictures of both Pickle and Riley, please! By the way, after hassling with several approaches, I finally opened a Yahoo account and used Flickr to post pictures. It's quick and easy.
Re: Mass Cell Tumours So sorry for your loss, we had a similar experience, lost our 11 year old black lab Max to lung cancer in December and our 14 year old Lizzie to old age in June. We too couldn't cope with the quiet, boring, tidy, clean house (lol) without a lab (we had never lived in this house without one since we moved in 12 years ago) we have 2 15 week old black lab brothers who are also distant relatives of our other pedigree boy Max. They have so many traits of our other two, but so many of their own. We see this as he stRt of the next chapter in our lab loving lives, we still miss our other two terribly, but it has certainly helped having two bundles of fun and mischief to keep us busy again ;D we now have a lively loud untidy house and the garden looks like a hurricane has hit it, but I will never complain again, there is nothing so heartbreaking as cleaning those wet nose marks or splashes from wet dog shakes off your doors and floors for,the final time. I love te mucky paw prints on my kitchen floor ;D Hope Riley brings you as much happiness as Pickles did. Lou x

Re: Mass Cell Tumours Welcome from me Helen, Hattie 7 years and rescue boy Charlie 3 years. So sorry you have lost your friend which is so very tough :'( Riley is a happy addition to the family and he will help. xxx
