We have a Kerria Japonica (Jews Mallow) growing in the garden and Mella decided that the bright yellow flowers loped inviting so jumped up, grabbed one and ate it before I could get near her. Is this going to do her any harm as far as anyone is aware?

With two labs that will eat anything I've found out that most plants inside and out are poisonous to some degree but most have to be eaten in quantity.

The link Clare has given you to the dogs trust poisonous plants is really good. I have it book marked. ::)

Many thanks ClareJ, very helpful. Yes Mella is, and our last dog was a Labrador and yes, she'll have a go at everything! Very difficult to catch her all the time, just have to hope! ::)

I'm a new puppy owner so not an expert, but our big garden is chock full of plants that are worryingly on lots of lists of 'poisonous'. For example the whole garden is full of ivy! Although our new boy started out by chewing EVERYTHING, especially the ivy, he has now (after a couple of weeks) got bored with that and ignores most things. Our vet advised us not to panic - we are never going to be able to stop him so he probably needs to learn that some plants make his mouth hurt... pulling him away every time just seemed to make the plant even more appealing... :(

The only thing that I did do was pick up all the fallen wisteria pods - they were the perfect shape to be picked up and chewed and I know that toxins tend to be concentrated in pods and seeds. And wisteria does appear on all the 'poisonous' lists.

So I'd guess that a snack of Kerria won't be too bad a problem.

Must admit, no after effects for Mella after her yellow snack so obviously done her no harm. Making the boundary puppy proof is proving a bit of a challenge though!

Glad to hear that there are no ill effects and all I can say is good luck with the puppy proofing :)
