Re: Quite worried about my girl Hi David, hopefully it'll be manageable and I'm sure you'll have many, many wonderful adventures together
Re: Quite worried about my girl So sorry about that David, but at least you know what's going on now, and you can take steps to keep Lady comfortable, while continuing to have a lovely time with her.
Re: Quite worried about my girl David, you know what's wrong now and you can deal with it. Lady is a very beautiful, happy girl and you can still enjoy all the things you do together including shoots which is great news. Enjoy life together that's what it's for. Helen xx
Re: Quite worried about my girl Hi David, hope you and Lady are doing ok, lovley Lady will still be a very happy girl with you, doing things she loves. Debsie
Re: Quite worried about my girl Thanks for all that. I found your posts all very suportive because I was worrying about the whole business. Yes we can deal with it now we know what's up. The vet recommended putting her on green lipped mussel extract and it seems to be helping already as she seems to be moving more easily although the symptoms do come and go. When I took her out this evening she did a whole heap of tucked butt running just full of the joys of spring really. Great to watch! I've got a shoot on Saturday so I'll keep an eye on her. She's not supposed to jump too much. How do you stop a young Lab from doing that then? ;D
Re: Quite worried about my girl Yes, that's going to be a challenge... but you will have to watch it, because obviously jumping (especially on hard surfaces) or running fast downhill is going to be hard on her elbows... Good luck!!
Re: Quite worried about my girl I've had her on green lipped mussel extract since the x-rays on Tuesday, and I know it's early days but it does seem to have made a marked improvement on her movement. The vet recommended it and the Arthritis Society trials put it high up in effectivness as a safe long term complimentary medicine. Last night when I took her out for her evening walk she did a bit of spontaneous "butt tuck" running which she hasn't done for ages. Then this morning there was no limp evident and when we met up with her friends Leo, Rory and Moselle (Golden Retriever, ditto but puppy, and Spitz) she was keen to play with them and shot off like a rocket with Rory butt tucking all over the place. She hasn't done that for such a long time and it was wonderful to watch. She did so much running she had to have a lie down for a bit as she's physically not that fit largely because of the limp I think. I kinda thought it might not be good to let her do too much, but she was obviously so happy I just let her get on with it. Fingers crossed she doesn't stiffen up later, and we've got a shoot tomorrow too. I'll have her picking up in open country so she doesn't get over taxed and see how we get on. Might let her do some shot game finding in the woods as well. Anyway fingers crossed. Still awaiting the specialist feedback on the x-rays. Hears hoping good ole M&S pay out soon too.
Re: Quite worried about my girl Hi David Hope the shoot goes well today. Just thought you might like to know that I use M&S and have found them to pay out quickly and with no fuss both times that I've claimed... Wishing you and the small black dog a lovely day... Sam.
Re: Quite worried about my girlLLY Hi Sam, Thanks, and the day did go well although it was really hard work and very cold. The girl did well and no limp in evidence. Hope she's ok tomorrow, but shes's lying on her day bed quite content as I type this. She is REALLY keen on retrieving now that she knows what she's meant to be doing. It's actually thrown up a bit of a problem I need to address which I'll post up under training. Anyway she retrieved well today and I was also pleased as punch when the owner of the shoot asked me to go behind a few guns in a fieldof sheep because he reckoned she was fine with sheep. Woohoo! Fame at last. She's still just a pet though.
