Thank you all very much. You see this was the encouragement I was thanking you for. ;D

It doesn't matter a jot in practical terms as what you've done has been very successful. But just interested in the degree to which you were able to use BAT situations along the way. :)

That's a very good point Rachael. I think your right the majority of what I've done has been counter/classical conditioning and desensitisation with certain aspects of BAT.

I used BAT set ups with dogs of family and friends and depending on whether S&S knew the dog did set ups for reactivity or frustrated greeters.

Getting a stranger to stand in the middle of a field was not practical. ;). I used 'BAT on everyday walks' to try and reduce their reactivity towards people. I think using a functional reward of turning/moving away from the trigger is important for a lot of reactive dogs. My dogs are a good example. It's like they don't know they can move away from the trigger. In the book she describes it as a 'magnetic effect' and I've definitely witnessed this. Rewarding the replacement behaviour with the functional reward and then a bonus treat I've found helps the dog learn that it doesn't have to react and it can choose to move away it doesn't have to face the monster or try and make the monster move away.

I have adapted BAT to suit my dogs which I think is important with all training.

Yes, you've done a great job of adapting a range of sound methods to suit your circumstances and dogs. An example of excellent training! :)

Thank you Rachael although I'm not sure about that maybe the day the vet can give them a full examination. ;)

Well done Jen, you've done brilliantly! I only hope I can do as good work with Penny as you have with your two!

You've probably mentioned this in earlier posts, but can you recommend any books etc for someone who might want to start looking at BAT?

Hey Jen, I don't manage to get on the forum as much as I'd like anymore, but when i do i always check out your BAT tips thread to see what's been going on. I've followed your work with your lovely boys and I think you have done an awesome job, you keep motivating me when I slip into the 'oh she's so much better, I'll just manage it from now on' frame of mind back to a 'no I can and will still work on this' frame of mind with Cuilli. I've picked up loads of hints and tips from you too, so thanks, as well as a massive well done from me :D

Thank you Lauren. I think your doing a very good job with penny already. ;D

    The BAT website is www.empoweredanimals.com

The book is Behaviour Adjustment Training by Grisha Stewart

The website has the main points on it with PDFS to down load but there is more info in the book.

Thank you Debsie. I have you to thank for introducing me to BAT. My dogs reactivity was one of the first things I asked about on the forum and you told me about Cuillin and using BAT so I definitely wouldn't have got this far without you. ;D.

Just written a long post and lost it! In summary, what you have done with Scott and Scout is amazing! :) :) Some of the posts really resonated with the experience we have (me in particular...) with Casper.

Love the website and especially like the symmetry double ended leash..wonder if they ship to the UK? I have a nice soft double ended lead but not as versatile as I would like.

Having just read Charlie's training update to say your BATting average has gone up a wee bit is an understatement Helen. Charlie's moved well up the BATting order. ;)
