Re: Ripped out claw Thankfully today things are getting better after continuing to apply Surolan from the vets and a string of mishaps with scabs it appears to be healing much better . In recent weeks a large crusty scab has formed which has been knocked easily , But today it appears to healing form the inside almost without a crusty scab , We managed to get a pair of Trixe neoprene boots from Amazon which he cannot rip or tear and it is not bothering him so much but on an evening we are just popping a sock on him and securing with surgical tape so the foot and claw can breathe and dry out . But overnight he needs the lampshade and boot and we have had relatives watching over him the past 2 days whilst at work to keep him out of mischief , So hopefully next week we can regain some normality as we are taking him to a Gundog Trainer next week to speed up his and our training or my wifes to be precise . Re: Ripped out claw Instead of surgical tape I use Velcro. I have home made "cuffs" to secure the sock above the elbow, at the fetlock or hock depending on front or hind leg (sorry a bit horsy there!). Cut a length of Velcro long enough to go round the limb, open up, overlap and stick one end from each piece together - effectively doubling the length. Sew or glue (I prefer to sew. Glue can be a chew magnet) the two ends together so that they can't be undone. Next time you put the sock on wrap the cuff tightly enough to stop it coming off but not so tight it cuts off the circulation! Stick the Velcro together and roll the sock over the top to prevent the dog from worrying at the Velcro and to help hold it in place. The sock might gradually slip down but it's easy enough to pull up and re wrap the cuff. But there's no need to stick the tape to the fur so for longer term conditions or skin conditions I think this is preferable. Kerryn
Re: Ripped out claw Kerryn thanks for that tip , At the moment the tap is doing a good job we are placing the tape over the sock in two areas rather than just the very top and on his hair or skin . Got up at 4:50am this morning and somehow he managed to get the sock off but small scab is in tact PHEW , So opefully anther successful day ahead . Mike
Re: Ripped out claw I cannot take much credit as my wife spends much more time with him and has been the driving force with trying different options throughout . So Hopefully by midweek we will be able to start building his exercise up in order to get him back into his normal walks working hedgerows and crawling through ditches . Then once fully healed get him swimming and retrieving in local ponds . Mike
