Just wondering if any of you actually make your own dog food , cooked food I mean ?
Just doing some research into this , whether is it practical or too difficult to ensure that all required vitamins and nutrients are added ?

No sorry Kate, I did raw and there are vitamin powders I used to add to ensure all vitamins were included in Hattie's diet. Good luck if you try :) x

I used to. For about 10 years my dog ate a mixture of raw meat (it was kangaroo), steamed vegetables, fruit (not much), and sometimes some rice for breakfast. Sometimes we added a supplement called Livamol to his breakfast food. We'd freeze this in freezer bags (1 meal worth) and did about a month at a time. Tin of sardines for dinner. He had meaty bones now and then. He also got human leftovers (quality, not fatty scraps). A couple of times he had a blood test and all levels were fine. There was no science behind what we chose to add - we just went for variety. The reason was because our dog had skin problems on a kibble-based diet and it was in the days before you could get good quality, commercial, preservative-free food.

I used to before I went Raw. I bought minced chicken and cooked it up with rice or potatoes, various vegs and a few herbs and spices and my lot lived off this quite happily for a long time. I used to add other meats and offal in at times too, depending on what I could get hold of.

I tried to emulate what was in Nature Diet, as I had been feeding that for a while beforehand, but with so many dogs, it got really expensive. I used to make up a huge pot of dog food and it would last them for two days, so I didn't have to cook every day for them. It didn't really take much time to prepare and as long as I didn't let it boil over, it wasn't messy and best of all even the fussy Poodles loved it :D .

Not enough time to cook for my dog, but today I will be collecting left-overs from school lunch, as it is fish, rice, peas and carrots. (The children throw away huge amounts of food, shocking  ) I take a load of this home with me in a big tupperware container, and dole it out to Poppy during the week in addition to her raw food and mineral/vitamin additives. She loves it; it costs nothing; and saves waste. Everyone is happy. :)

The reason I was asking is because one of my daughters is manageress of a busy restaurant in Looe . She was telling me how much waste they have , both from customers plates but mainly in the kitchen , steak trimmings , salmon trimmings etc . so it got me thinking about giving it all a good home :)

Good thinking. I reckon you have the makings of some good doggie dinners there.
