I think Benson overdid it a bit yesterday...well he was overexcited to meet 2 fab labradors who encouraged him into the water, he raced around like a nutter for ages before hand, some sort of manic psyching himself up I think.

Well today he really has limp from his wrist, no inflammation or heat, and he doesn't seem too bothered.but how would I know??Exercise today is limited to wandering in the garden, and sniffing games to keep him occupied. I would ice but don't think it would be effective particularly :-\

My question is this: I am loath at this point to take Benson to the vet, I know they will probably say he as overdone it and will prescribe anti-inflammatories. well I would rather sit it our for a day or two and restrict exercise than the risk of an anti-inflammatory giving Benson a false sense of his abilities right now. Is is common for a puppy to have the odd limp or sprain? Should I be more concerned? Obviously he will be straight to the vet if things don't resolve very quickly.

I would say take it very easy today, and if he is still limping tomorrow morning then definitely take him to the vet. We had a four-week on-off period with a limp caused by a sprained wrist. Every time I thought it was getting better and let her have a little more exercise, it came back again! Next time there's a limp that isn't better within 24 hours I'm going straight in to the vet.

Having started at "oh, is he limping a bit?" and ending up with a diagnosis of a ruptured cruciate, I'm at the vet right away in future. Yes, they may say rest for a week but best get that over with. I do not think anti-inflammatories are very strong pain killers. For serious pain they are prescribed alongside much more powerful painkillers.

He has taken things easy today...apart from his first "humping" session...which he thoroughly enjoyed..sigh...

It looks like it may be more of a shoulder strain.. however we have decided to err on the side of caution and have checked out by the vet tomorrow :)

Back from the vets and Benson is absolutely fine..just a bit of strain, but nothing to worry about. Gave him a good look over, the vet commented he was a lovely healthy pup and a good weight..20.6 kg and 5 months old :)

his humping however is another matter.. seems my little boy is growing up.,,sigh.. ;D ;D

PS :I also need a new pair of slippers..... ::) ::)
