Re: Help with Insurance!
It does seem a little unfair that a one off visit to the vets at 9 weeks old for a runny tummy leads to a life long exclusion for anything gastro related, but if those are the rules then what can I do. I think I'll stick with the kennel club for now and if there is nothing else in the next 12 months will try pet plan and see what they say!
No, it shouldn't be a life long exclusion, that may be unreasonable in the context of pet insurance. Ask for the restriction to be removed at the first anniversary of your policy (if you change). If they refuse, try a complaint to the financial ombudsman http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/. But it's a fact that there are advantages in sticking with a policy the pup had from birth, so consider that before changing.
Re: Help with Insurance! Okay, spoke to Kennel Club and the only way they will cover with no exclusions is if we go on the highest cover, i.e. the most expensive! Any other cover and both vets trips will result in life exclusions for gastro/itching issues. Pet Plan will ignore the skin itching completely and want a 3 month exclusion on any further diarrhoea, then its off his records if no reoccurrence Torn about what to do. I don't like being forced into something thats more than I want to pay, think I might take the chance with Pet Plan? Decision time!

(Even though I am with neither )
Re: Help with Insurance! We are with PetPlan, very reasonably priced for 2 dogs, although haven't claimed so don't know how quickly they pay out. We went for the lifetime cover which includes anything and everything and Hattie is 6 1/2 years old. Good luck
Re: Help with Insurance! I've been looking a different companies and the range of premium costs is amazing! The best quotes so far are from: Morethan.com @ £22pm, £12,000 vets fees, life time cover Direct Line @ £25pm, £6000 vets fees, life time cover I also have a very low quote from pet-insurance.co.uk for £16! Life time and £4000 vets bills. Does anyone know about this company? After your experience, I think I will be taking out cover the day before I get our puppy.
Re: Help with Insurance! Our PetPlan policy is £420 per year which includes 2 dogs with lifetime cover for everything and £7,000 each vet bills. Think this is pretty good compared to M&S that we were with for a few years that went upto £650 ish
Re: Help with Insurance! Debs - my advice would be to take out cover 2 weeks before you get your pup as any claims in the first 14 days are subject to exclusion too! Ah, the things I wished I had known before I got my pup!
Re: Help with Insurance! If you take your 8 week old pup for a health check at the vets and take the vets free one month PetPlan cover then there is no 14 day exclusion as you have just had a vet check and the vet effectively certifies the pup as healthy. This is not the case for breeders free insurance. You can then continue the policy with no exclusions once the free month runs out.
