Can anyone advise on what size crate to get for an 8 week old puppy? I'm hoping to use it just for toilet training is completed, so I'm not too worried about having to get a large crate (unless she loves it of course!). What have new puppy Mummy and Daddy's recently bought and where from?

He loves it - he is 13 months and I can't see us ever getting rid of it. If I get another puppy, I'd buy a big one with a divider from the start.
Re: Crate size Hi ya I am getting my pup in 12 days !!! We are using a crate too. I am like yourself and can't see it being long term unless she loves it. But I have decided to go with the 26" crate.

Re: Crate size Happy shopping !!! We just bought two bowls and a lead €50 reduced to €5 and a puppy lead and collar. We got a few toys also and a blanket which we left with out pup when we went to see her. So when we take her home she will have a familiar smell. Good luckx

Re: Crate size Not only will the blanket stink, your cute little puppy will really stink having been walked on and weed on by its litter mates. We started with a 29 inch crate, which my husband thought was a total waste of money. When she outgrew it at about four months he was totally for buying the next size up. We now use her first size crate in the car for short trips to Puppy Classes etc First night she cried. But I figured she was missing her litter mates. I knew that if I went to her we would have to ignore her eventually, so I hardened my heart. Next night 10 minutes. Nothing since. I just open the door, say "in your crate" and drop in the required 2 pieces of kibble, in she pops and settles down. Once in a hurry I only dropped in 1 piece of kibble, you should have heard the complaints. Who knew a 5 month old puppy could count. Enjoy.
Re: Crate size Mine didn't stink of urine, came with that lovely puppy smell Edited to say that mine were sort of house trained, they took themselves off to pee on paper which the breeder changed frequently.

[/quote] Charlie and his blanket smelled heavenly! I had to go to work on the Monday, leaving Charlie with OH. I cuddled him goodbye and could smell a faint whiff of his puppy smell on my shirt all day. It tugged at my heart strings and made me want to rush home! To the extent that I thought maybe it was an clever evolution survival thing to make humans fall in love with puppies! Then again, maybe everyone at work that day was just thinking "phew! What has she rubbed on that shirt! What a whiff!" ;D ;D ;D
Re: Crate size Tatze and her puppy blanket stank of WEE! But the litter were weeing on tiles and paddling in it - hehe! She had her one and only bath on the second day we had her, she's not needed one since.
Re: Crate size Loving all your puppy stories !! The breeder did warn me about how bad it would smell when we came back to collect her. She is also going to give us a square of her vet bedding that she has been using from they were born. What do yous use to line your crates ?

He has a thick padded mat with a waterproof canvas cover for the daytime (I leave water in the crate) and a fleecy version of the same for cooler nights (but he doesn't sleep in his crate, he has a bed outside it and chooses the bed). For a puppy, the question is what will it chew? Oddly, although Charlie is a champ chewer of just about everything, he doesn't chew his mats or beds. Just one mat that was a knobbly memory foam, which was irresistible.
