Charlie hasn't had very much off lead interaction with other dogs due to his absconding behaviour so has spent most of his life on a long line. His absconding is very nearly sorted out I hope : There is a very exuberant Red Fox Lab called Woody who is about a year old and they always bark at each other :. David met Mark and Woody out on his walk they had an initial bark then on Charlie's long line they did some running around chasing each others butts, it ended with Woody being submissive and lying on the ground and Charlie standing over him and barked once nothing else. Is this acceptable or not and what does it mean? We have no experience with a male dog or this problem and don't want to make matters worse so some advise would be really appreciated. Thank you xxx
Re: Social Interaction with other dogs Sounds perfectly acceptable to me! They are sorting out who is 'top dog', and it sounds like it's Charlie . They'll probably get on just fine from now on.
Re: Social Interaction with other dogs Oh thanks so much Karen, what a relief that is to hear, could we really be getting there after 2 1/2 very long years
Re: Social Interaction with other dogs My friend's lab, Zaba, rolls over for almost every dog he meets. Tatze has never rolled over for another dog, but she play bows and lies down and wags to show she's friendly. They are all different. I think Charlie's behaviour sounds totally normal. Lots of dogs bark out of excitement.
Re: Social Interaction with other dogs Hattie has never rolled over either as she is a very confident lady but she does play bow with dogs she trusts. Wiith her best pals she crawls along on her tummy stalking them and then leaps into a full on run ;D. I am so relieved that this is normal behaviour Charlie is exhibiting as I wondered if he has only really learned to interact correctly with Hattie.
Re: Social Interaction with other dogs Totally normal Helen , Sam is very submissive , Millie isnt , thats dogs
Re: Social Interaction with other dogs You can see some pictures of something that sounds similar to what you describe here: http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/virtual-pet-behaviorist/dog-behavior/canine-body-language About 2 3rds down the page.
Re: Social Interaction with other dogs Sounds like normal dog interaction to me too so glad things are improving with Charlie
