Hi guys , I was wondering what is the best thing to use for your pups bedding / mattress? At the moment I'm using a baby's change table matress(which has a plastic type covering over it), which I cover with an old towel. I read somewhere that "vet bed" is good too? What do you all use? Re: Bedding for puppy Vet bed is excellent Robbie , it washes well and dries very quickly too . When Sam was a puppy , I made small duvets out of an old double one and then used Vet bed on top
Re: Bedding for puppy Yes - vet bed is the best. I use it for mats on my wooden floor as well as in the crate. It washes very easily and dries quickly. Re: Bedding for puppy Vet bed every time. Prepare yourself: you will be horrified at the cost, and wonder how a bit of fleece can cost that much. BUT believe me it is worth every penny. We bought one and cut it in two - one half in his 'bed' and one in the car boot for journeys. The one in his bed is part bedding, and part favourite chew toy. He attacks it with gusto every day, wraps it round himself, tears at it viciously.... it survives everything and is still there at night for him to curl up on. It can get chucked in the washing machine when it is too smelly to bear any more : and comes out good as new. Rosie
Re: Bedding for puppy Vet bed. We got ours off Amazon from Bronte Glen. absolutely brilliant. Cut it up. Washes and dries quickly. A word of caution on the Bronte Glen, the traditional stuff is super tough almost chew proof. The non slip variety its not double woven so can look moth eaten quite quickly.

Re: Bedding for puppy Vet bed is amazing, though expensive, especially if you buy from a pet shop and they generally only have plain stuff. I got mine really cheap, lovely pattern and non slip backing at Crufts, and haven't looked back. Plus is the only thing Penny won't chew! I despair at the numbe of beautiful dog beds we went through before I gave up!
Re: Bedding for puppy New to the forum so just reading through old posts......do people use detergents in the machine when they wash the vet bed? If so, what? Also, can you wash other things in the same wash? e.g. Turtle Mat and Super- Absorbent towel.
Re: Bedding for puppy I usually just put the vetbed in a 'quick wash' cycle with no detergent - just enough to get it back to a state where I can bear to be in the same room as it. When I washed it with lovely lavender scented detergent Pongo made his disapproval obvious! (Although he was chewing it and sleeping on it happily a couple of hours later).
Re: Bedding for puppy The first thing Willow did was pee on her vet bed ( : ) so I chucked it into the washing machine with normal liquid laundry detergent. I don't see why you couldn't wash other things with it. The only proviso being that Willow's piece of VetBed is big and, because it's pretty stiff-backed, it takes up the whole of the machine. The backing seems to soften slightly with the wash, though.
Re: Bedding for puppy Another vote for Vet Bed here too. Machine washable, but you will be amazed at the amount of dog hair that ends up having to be cleaned out of the washing machine.
Re: Bedding for puppy Another user of vetbed here too. We use it in Nellies crate, in the car and as a mat on the tiled floor by her crate. I wash mine on a 40c cycle with my normal washing powder but no fabric softener. Definitely worth the price tag.
Re: Bedding for puppy Hello! Have just searched for puppy and bedding and saw this. My new pup Seren is chewing/tearing at his vet bed bedding. I gather that this is normal, and I don't mind if he chews stuff in 'his zone' ie crate or pens, and I have spares, but is it safe to leave him wrecking it? A couple of times bits of fluff have come off when he's been playing with it and I don't want him to choke on anything... Also, I give him chew toys like kongs in his crate as I want him to know that he can chew away in his crate to his hearts content, no problems. And he tends to do this quite calmly. But when he starts tearing away at his bed he can go a bit nuts... I'd like the crate to be a relatively calm place for him, so is it foolish of I let him continue? Plus I can't watch him every second in his crate to redirect when he starts on the bedding. Have tried taking the bedding away and using a little fleece blanket that he had in the litter, but he just chews that too and then doesn't like the crate without the bedding... Hmmm! S&S
