We were out covering 5 guns this morning waiting for the last drive of the day before our shoot's end of season lunch. The drive hadn't started when a gunshot behind us made us turn just in time to see a pigeon fall in the rape bout 300 yds away. Lady wasn't on her lead, but she looked at me for the go, and I sent her off after the pigeon. She had a long run to get to the bird but was going like a train as straight as an arrow to where the bird dropped when a spaniel came out of the trees on the same mission but with only about half the distance to run. It seemed to be game, set and match to the spaniel. But no! The spaniel had not marked the fall of the bird properly and overshot by about 50 yds and started to hunt. In comes the Little Black Dog straight onto the bird - no messing! She wags, circles it, and picks it up and straight back to me! Game over and 1 point to the little black dog. ;D
Re: Small Black Dog shows Spaniel How it's Done! Aw bless the small black dog yet again, good on you for showing the Spaniel Lady and with poorly elbows too - Labradors everytime!! Thank goodness those Pheasants have mostly been shot, I really dislike the season. Hope you had a good lunch. Helen x

Had a good lunch, thanks, Helen. 1 o'clock to 5 o'clock I think says it all. Now that I've pretty much got to know everyone it's a nice friendly social group. Yes stopped shooting pheasants now. Mind you we didn't get all that many. Missing barn doors while sitting on the latch was mentioned by one of the guns. The dogs love it if you don't mind the dead birds.
