Molly had appalling diahorrea. She isn't ill in herself. I think that my husband triggered it by giving her too many fatty lots bits when he was trimming the joint. I put her on chicken and rice yesterday, which seemed to solve the problem. But I think I relaxed too soon as after a bit of normality we are back to the squits. Any advice other than keeping her on Chicken and rice for a bit longer? I'm giving her chicken stock to drink but as it comes from a cube I am wondering if that could be a little salty. Genuine commiserations for those of you, like Naya, whose dogs have problem tummies. It must take a lot of work and tenacity to deal with your problems. Note to JulieT. Cannot use Buster Cubes etc. We are both bored Does motion effect the doggy bowel? Can I still walk her?
Re: Runny tummy Hi Tina, poor Molly After several months of funny tummies, I think I can help (well, try ) I would keep her on chicken and rice for a few days and slowly add her food back in with it. If she is well in herself I would continue to walk her, but beware she may go when out and they are very difficult to clean up!! Chicken stick cubes do have a lot of salt in, have you tried giving her ice cubes - Harley loves them I put rice in a kong with a spoon full of natural yoghurt and freeze it for an hour..... She loves it and it helps settle her tummy too. I hope she gets better soon xx
Re: Runny tummy Three rice/yogurt Kongs freezing away nicely. Thanks for the tip I think Molly would send thanks too, but she's too busy dealing with what was left in the mixing bowl
Re: Runny tummy Have you tried pro-kolin? It works very well for Charlie
Note to JulieT. Cannot use Buster Cubes etc. We are both bored
Umm....Do you mean you are stuck in the house because she is poorly? I've never stopped walking Charlie when he has had runny poo. Although training is a pain without using food, for sure. A top tip from the forum was to stuff kitchen roll in your poo bags! :
Re: Runny tummy Sanity demands that we go out. Luckily I can walk her down a lane with really rough verges that no one ever walks on so if there is an accident I should be able to cope with it. Naya's rice/yogurt Kongs went down a storm. Reckon that girl will be on Masterchef next week
Re: Runny tummy Pro Fibre is great for firming up the stools. I use a little sprinkle in every meal for Tatze as I think it helps her digestive health (a bit like me and my daily actimel) You use more for runny tummies - see the tub for guidelines. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Protexin-Pro-Fibre-Dogs-500-g/dp/B00BEXP5MA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397133402&sr=8-1&keywords=pro+fibre Don't use stock cubes to get her drinking - far too much salt. Mix a teaspoon of Manuka honey with warm water, this has never failed to get my pooches drinking Personally I wouldn't use dairy products like yogurt either - dogs don't process dairy very easily. (Ps, my Mum always used to term 'runny tummy' - you took me back! ) )
Re: Runny tummy I hope it was a nice memory of your Mum. I used the term 'Runny Tummy' as I was posting around breakfast time. Didn't want to put anyone off their grub
Re: Runny tummy I've made Scrambled egg and rice as a change from chicken and rice when my labs have had upset tums. I didn't read the tip before about kitchen roll in a poo bag...will definitely remember that one!
Re: Runny tummy Natural yoghurt was recommended to me by my vets as it can help their digestive system Forgot about the scrambled egg.....another favourite here
Re: Runny tummy I rarely feed cheese - only when I'm a bit desparate for a high value treat. I don't put yoghurt in the same class as cheese - it contains less lactose. I still don't feed it though, just because I feel more comfortable sticking to meat protein and small amounts of veg
Re: Runny tummy I too would recommend pro kolin. Lola had a very bad tummy for about 2 weeks and it really helped. She wouldn't eat it as it was so it spread it about in her bowl then put her food on top. Took another week but it helped get her back to normal
Re: Runny tummy The chicken and rice routine has been partially successful (I'll spare you the graphic details). Yesterday she started coughing. At first I thought that a bit of rice had gone down the wrong way, it was that sort of cough. But she's still got it today and as it is coming up for the weekend it's off to the vet this morning. She seems a bit listless this morning, but as she has been unwell for 3 days now with only a bit of rice and chicken to eat I'm not overly worried. She does still have the energy for enthusiastic Counter Cruising!! She is currently tucking into one of Naya's Rice and Yogurt Kongs with great enthusiasm. I wonder what benign spirt it sat on my shoulder on Monday and whispered that I should buy some organic natural yogurt, it is something I generally only buy in the summer to go with my soft fruits.
Re: Runny tummy Well that was a waste of time, not to say money. He couldn't find anything wrong with her (not a criticism of the vet as she wanted to bounce all over her new best friend). Didn't cough once while we were there. He's given us a pro-biotic to put on her food and Immodium. I keep on with the chicken and rice for a few more days. Glad we went though, with the weekend ahead it is always good to have reassurance that there is nothing going to go seriously wrong with your dog in the next couple of days.
Re: Runny tummy As you say, at least the visit to the vet will stop you having a worrying weekend. Hope Molly is soon fully recovered.
Re: Runny tummy And how does the little *** reward my loving care. The boiling of the rice, the cooking and shredding of the chicken etc. By going into the garden and whipping the heads off my Giant Pansies that's how
Re: Runny tummy Glad it's nothing serious. Lol at the pansies, sorry.....Harley rewards me by digging holes in my garden : xx

I had given up on the garden, but feel I really must make an effort now my pup is grown up -
