Hi all, I'm back on the forum again about my 5 month lab Barkley. This forum is fab! Barkley met a hedgehog on the garden Friday night and since then has been sneezing more than usual and has a clear liquid coming out of his nose. Absolutely fine in him self and eating like normal so not sure if the hedgehog spiked him on the nose or that's just a coincidence and it's something more sinister? I feel like the vets think I'm a pain as it seem like since we've got him we are there monthly so thought I'd check to see if anyone else has experienced this befit I make the call tomorrow. Thanks all
Re: Is this normal? Runny nose and sneezing! Ah sorry I can't help,no hedgehog encounters I can draw on for you or runny nose episodes either,I'm sure there be someone along that can help. I don't take a chance if I'm worried about something...Dexter is my first dog so I'm seeing everything for the first time.i always ask on here for advice but I go to the vet if I'm worried, you book your appointment and pay for their time so I don't see why they should get bothered if it's only, something small, and easy to clear up x
Re: Is this normal? Runny nose and sneezing! Any watery eyes? Or itching/scratching? Runny nose and sneezing sounds like hayfever or pollen allergy ?? Could also cause itching, but hedgehogs are notoriously flea ridden aren't they?#Not really any help I guess...... :-\
Re: Is this normal? Runny nose and sneezing! Harley met a hedgehog last night in the garden......I'm not sure which one was more scared....Harley was growling and barking, the hedgehog curled into a ball. Had to drag Harley into the house to let the hedgehog escape!?m Not had any problems here from their encounter
Re: Is this normal? Runny nose and sneezing! Maybe meeting the hedgehog was just a coincidence as I'm sure that wouldn't have caused it so quickly. If there's itching and runny eyes I would inclined to say hay fever or a grass/pollen allergy, if not then it's possible it could be kennel cough (contrary to the name it doesn't just happen in kennels). It's basically just like a cold but it's highly contagious between other dogs. Most need a course of antibiotics to clear it up and vets won't allow you in the waiting room with an infected dog as it spreads like wildfire. If the discharge from the nose turns green it's kennel cough, even without the distinctive hacking cough, they can just be snotty and sneezy with it. They can still catch it if they've had a vaccine against it, it's just a milder form. And it's also possible for it to be a reaction to the vaccine - it's a live vaccine so it's possible for dogs to show symptoms as a result of being vaccinated - Penny coughed for a couple of weeks after hers and then she was fine.
