Seven lovely pups born 6 days ago This is her third and last litter, same sire each time so they should be wonderful dogs , its tempting as they arent that far from us but the thought of two great lumps going crackerdog in a small home is scarey We have been invited to go and see them in a week or two, just to take photos, thats all
Re: Sams Mum has had her pups Does one actually believe Kate seriously thinks all she'll be doing is taking photos? Record photos of the chosen one I think! ;D If I could get my other half to look at pups it would be game over! Go on!
Re: Sams Mum has had her pups I am disappointed in your faith in me to just take photos and walk away
Re: Sams Mum has had her pups Its a dilema David . These pups should make fantastic dogs as they have always used the same sire who is a Leadburn dog , bred for temperament and bidability, both parents are laid back calm dogs with all health checks . Knowing that its her last litter makes it harder to resist , they will be raised around children and the breeder has grandmother and aunt , both super dogs who are used for retrieving . My stumbling block is that my husband is disabled, he cant walk more than a few metres and so all walking and training is down to me . Where we live is ideal for dogs, between Bodmin Moor and the coast, lots of lovely walks, our garden is large but our home is small so I have to try and be practical . I have owned Labs and Springers over the years and Sam has been, without doubt, the easiest dog I have ever owned, so easy to train , so it would just be my luck to end up with the exception to the rule and have a manic one : I am saying No at the moment , common sense even tells me not to go and see them , we`ll see
Re: Sams Mum has had her pups Yes probably the safe option is best. I'd like a second lab to keep Lady company because we are away a lot running track days and she's in kennels very regularly for a couple of days at a time. House also small for two largish dogs and to be honest I found Lady very challenging when she was a puppy. She's in the manic full-on school of labs although she has settled a lot now. It's oh so tempting to let heart win over common sense!
Re: Sams Mum has had her pups I often think about having a second as Riley would do well with a friend I think but we look after a friends dog every now and then and it's a challenge having them both in the house. They do tire each other out, she's very well trained and it's fine when they're chilled but when they get excited the house feels very small indeed. I'm sure you'll do the right thing for you all and Sam, we're only teasing cos we all know how hard it is to just look
Re: Sams Mum has had her pups My husband is disabled now and can only toddle around the house and cannot walk outside. When I got my third dog (second Lab) last year, husband was fine and helped out with the walking. So it is hard now, however, I would far rather have two dogs than one and it does get you out of the house and gets the old brain working ;D Stacia
Re: Sams Mum has had her pups I've always loved having two dogs... But now that I just have one, I must say it really is far less work!!! That said, I just know we'll end up getting a second dog sometime... I wont be able to resist...
Re: Sams Mum has had her pups We`ve always been a multi dog household until fairly recently, and enjoyed it too but that was when we both fit and healthy , makes a massive difference We often think that Sam would love a friend at home but then is that beeing silly, putting human emotions into a dog ? he does meet other dogs most days so isnt that deprived I also get feelings of guilt about buying a puppy when there are so many dogs in rescues . I dont blame anyone for wanting a pup , the advantages are great but maybe buying two is a bit unethical ? Working as a volunteer for the Blue Cross , it really highlights the plight of all the rescue centres , especially right now when they are full to bursting with unwanted Christmas presents
Re: Sams Mum has had her pups Kate, teasing apart, I do understand your hesitation - there are so many lovely dogs desperate for a good home, it sometimes feels wrong thinking about buying a pedigree. Just stay steady, if it is right for you to take on a second dog, the right one for you and your family will appear.
Re: Sams Mum has had her pups Kate you will know what is best so don't worry. What will be will be. Helen xx
