Hi We have an 11 month old Lab and are thinking of getting a companion, we have seen a 6 year old Springer who is very well trained and behaved, anyone had any experience of keeping the two and do they get on well together or is chaos? :-\ Many Thanks
Re: Labrador and Springer One dog family here I would guess it would depend on the individual personalities of the dogs rather than matching breeds. Do you get an opportunity of a meeting and trial run? I would certainly hope so - that would be your best guide. Good luck!
Re: Labrador and Springer Labrador and Springer combinations are something there seems to be loads of in gundog circles .... must be a good sign
Re: Labrador and Springer I'd do a trial meeting on neutral ground, as Jac suggests, if you can. No reason in principle why those breeds would not be a good match
Re: Labrador and Springer When we were looking for a pup, we heard that bringing a spaniel puppy into a home where there is a calm older lab often works well, as the lab works as a calming influence. Bringing an excitable lab puppy into a home with a live-wire older spaniel was not recommended quite so strongly, but obviously it depends on the individual dogs. Pippa has older spaniels and a young lab, which seems to work just fine.
Re: Labrador and Springer My niece has a Springer, Tatze and Bryn were pups together. They had a ball! BUT - through her teenage years Tatze was far too rough with him. We kept them away from each other for a few months. She is fine with him now but can get over excited and rough now and again, but I pop her on the lead for a bit and all is well. Here they are together, then and now
