Friends, forum posters, Welshmen, lend me your ears (Shakespeare never was my forte but I'm sure it was something like that ;) )

During the summer we will be spending a week in Wales - specifically at a place called Myddfai in the Brecon Beacons. Now there will be plenty of countryside walking to be done but I'm just wondering whether there are also any beaches within striking distance that are dog friendly (as Harvey has never been to a beach). Anybody have any recommendations? You don't even really have to be Welsh, I'm happy to receive views from those of you that were just visitors!

We live in Wales but I'm ashamed to say I don't know anything about the beaches, dog-friendly or otherwise! But I'm going to watch this thread for suggestions, because I'd love to introduce our new boy Pongo to the sea....

I'm friendly and a forum poster, but not Welsh though we've lived in Wales for 18 years!

The best beaches in S Wales, many of which are dog friendly, are around the Gower near Swansea. We had some fun with our last dog on Oxwich Bay and Three Cliffs Bay. Mydffai is in the western Black Mountains so it should be an easy drive from there.

I hope you enjoy your holiday.

When the children were young we often used to go to Three Cliffs Bay, a beautiful place, in those days you could take dogs anywhere on the beach, so good to read you still can at Three Cliffs. I was never so fond of Oxwich.

Thank you - we'll try to get across to Three Cliffs Bay then.

Oh my goodness, you live in Wales and have never been to the beach????

I live in Canada but I was in Wales about 5 years ago and spent a lovely day exploring some of the beautiful beaches in South Wales. All along the coast from Swansea north there are some spectacular beaches!!

Of course I was there as a tourist so no dog with me, so I don't know about taking a dog there but you really must go and see the sites, it is absolutely beautiful.

Mind you, I do live in the Prairies so any beach is pretty special, but still... :)

Well, we made it to Three Cliffs beach and I have to say it is brilliant for dogs (well, for people too but obviously users of this forum tend to have a slightly different outlook!). It was a little remote and necessitated driving down some narrow roads and parking at a campsite but well worth it - there couldn't have been more than about 20 people on the whole beach (and a local we were chatting with said that was the busiest that he had seen it! ;) ). Will post some pics in the photos section.

I'm glad that you liked it. From your pictures it looks as if Harvey had a great time at three cliffs bay!
