Tatze has had marrow bones until recently and gnawed nicely on them - but she has started crunching them, so we have discontinued them. She is fine with the giant nylabone and gnaws it nicely - but I wanted something for teeth cleaning and the nylabone doesn't do that, so I hope the anco root will be just the thing.

Re: STAGbar Anco roots are pretty good, I reckon. The only reason Charlie doesn't get them anymore is that he started hurling them against the wall in a game, and caused a lot of damage. : I'm not so sure they will clean teeth though - one of the reasons I thought they were safe is that they are too big for Charlie to get his back teeth round and chomp in a way that could damage back molars. That might change the more they are chewed, of course.
Re: STAGbar Thanks JulieT - I will let you know! I do give Tatze a small twisted rawhide chew after each meal and she chews it into small pieces - so that helps, but only lasts a couple of minutes (any bigger and she gets sloopy poos) Doesn't take long to get back to the poo subject eh?

Re: STAGbar Anco root did not hold it's charm for long, but nothing really does. She is not a great chewer. I think she was crossed with a chipmunk because she loves to gnaw wood. There is a branch that has come off a smallish tree near us, it is apparently her life's ambition to turn it into wood chip.
Re: STAGbar Yes, oddly for Charlie (who will chew anything) he also seemed to lose a bit of interest in chewing the anco root - hence the game of doing maximum damage to interior decoration was invented, I think. His life ambition is to chew wood, for sure. That's why I thought the anco root would be perfect. Jen's dogs love them though, I think. I bought large and extra large. The extra large is particularly effective at taking chunks out of plasterwork, Charlie finds.
Re: STAGbar With the marrow bones I used to give it her half an hour then put it away - I will do the same with the Anco root, which may help to keep her interest up, 'tho she is quite a keen chewer anyway.
Re: STAGbar Thanks again Uncle Bob. I will have a go at that. ;D I got extra large anco root for my two. I only give it them first thing in a morning after breakfast. It then goes away. I think that helps keep their interest. I do think you need a chew addict for them to find the roots interesting. I've got two. :
