On this site - All About Dog Food - Bonio gets a dreadful review!

Tatze has had a Bonio for lunch every day since 16 weeks old. She is well, fit, shiny and waggy - would you carry on or find a healthier biscuit?

(I must say I never worried like this about my kids!!)

    :)

Just carry on. It's just a snack. We get a similar thing at times for Obi - just a hard, dry wheat biscuit thing. If your dog doesn't show a problem with wheat and otherwise has a quality diet then I wouldn't worry.

One of my friends dared me to eat a Bonio when I was a kid. So I did. Never did me no harm ;)

My dogs have a Bonio every night, it is only a snack, not their whole diet! Dogs were brought up for years on similar biscuits years ago and were fine in my experience. When I was little, I used to often eat dog biscuits! I am not sure where all this 'dogs mustn't eat grain etc' has come from. Some dogs are wheat intolerant, but I haven't met one yet.

Thanks both of you - that's a good point, like my custard cream with my coffee. Not nutritional but nice :)

I have met a wheat intolerant dog, my Gavin. Even if he had a few grains of spilled bird food he got poorly, so he had a special diet. Just like humans, a few are.

Here he is, lovely gentle, friendly pooch, lived to 15 years old :)

Bonio withdrawal would be greeted with horror here. Its their Crate Treat when I go out....they have one every day.

Gavin looks gorgeous...what a gentle face, and those ears are for stroking....

As long as they're not living on a diet consisting only of bonios I can't see a problem! It's just like us having a cookie or a peice of cake - fine in moderation.

I buy the small bonios for Penny and it's her after walk biscuit which she sits by the cupboard and waits patiently for!

My dogs have had a black bonio for breakfast going back many many years. I attribute them with the total lack of doggy farts in all my dogs.

Aww Gavin was the sweetest looking boy.

Well if Tatze likes Bonio why not, I have just eaten a big piece of homemade carrot cake which is clearly not good for me but what the hell ;D

There is an alternative and I do buy them, Laughing dog Cheese & Broccoli biscuits with herbs etc. and no nasty additives/preservatives or wheet and apparently good for
teeth :-\ There make a few flavours and you can buy them in Wilkinsons, haven't seen them anywhere else. :)

I just had a look at the site you refer to and thank goodness the food I give Chip has come out with high scores. However, a lot of the treats are not seemingly up to scratch. But I think if the treats we give ourselves were decided upon through their nutritional value, we'd never treat again. A little of what you fancy does you good.

Sophie is a good girl. But she did get into trouble (maybe P4 or P5) as she was the owner of the dog biscuits - yes, even then they were in her pockets - that her friend ate at playtime. School were not impressed.
    I prefer custard creams :)
