GET READY: New Competition starts Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is the forum’s third birthday. And we are going to kick off the start of our fourth year online, with our first photo competition

I’ll be making a special thread to place photos in, and posting up the rules, prizes etc, later today.

So dust down those cameras – and get ready!

    oooooooo! exciting!

Are there going to be categories?

Do the photos need to be 'new' ones?

    Will there be PRIZES??

Am I asking too many questions?

    ;)

Don't be upset Heidrun - it's a compliment. For the rest of us less talented picture takers a photo competition with you is like a 100M race between Usain Bolt and the inhabitants of an old people's home. ;) Anyway, I'm ever the optimist and would take part anyway - imagine if one of the old timers actually beat Mr Bolt! ;D

    Photo Competition Guidelines

We’ll be posting these again when we open the relevant thread(s) tomorrow.

    General stuff about the competition

It’s meant to be a bit of fun, so don’t be shy. It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece to be worth entering.

Photos must be embedded so they can be viewed directly. i.e. No links. So you’ll need an account with a website like Flickr or Photobucket, or another online image storage solution.

Start Date - our birthday - Sunday 11th May
Closing Date - one week later Sunday 18th May

Theme: The competition theme is Friendship

Photos to be listed in a thread(s) that I set up on the 11th and lock on Saturday the 17th.
The winners will be chosen on Sunday 18th

    Guidelines

Open to all members of The Labrador Forum
Maximum of 2 entries per member
Your submissions must be your own photo
Every photo must include at least one dog!
    No photoshopping or captions
At least one of the dogs pictured must be your own.

    Prizes

£75 to the dog charity of your choice, for winner of the best overall photograph.

£25 to the dog charity of your choice for the best ‘snapshot’ taken from a mobile device

Runners up will receive signed copies of The Happy Puppy Handbook

You need to start an account on a photo hosting site like Flickr (which is what I use but you can also use Photobucket or Dropbox).

This thread here has some info about how to post a photo using Flickr :)

Heidrun, do you have a bit of time to write a few tips? You know the kind of thing. Just to help us to do better photographs, with or witnout posh equipment.

Ive borrowed the works camera and wondered whether I should take photos on the burst setting so taking lots and discarding most of them. Is that the right idea and if so do I need it to take more than four photos on burst before pausing? Its got quite a large, fast card but to do more than 4 id need to reduce picture quality which im loathe to do.

    Thanks for any tips

Sarah, I have a very good DSLR camera and an even better ultrasonic zoom lens which works well and fast even in bad weather and light conditions. Without the kit my photos would be rubbish! Sometimes I shoot in raw which gives lots of scope when editing. It is just trial and error and studying some really great photos of pro photographers and trying to work out how they achieved those images.
