Hello to all Lab Lovers out there! I smile to myself as I read the post on running out of things to read etc.. though I haven't started to buy yet I'm going to try to get a lovely fox-red or black working dog Puppy to share my life with me in about 8 weeks time. Hopefully... I'll let you know how it goes!
Re: Sincere Greetings Welcome and best of luck in your search for the right puppy It's an exciting time! Here are some tips on what to look for in a good breeder: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/labrador-breeders-how-to-find-a-good-one/
Re: Sincere Greetings Hi John! Maybe that was my post about I've run out of things to buy and read... There's plenty to read here and I hope you enjoy it! My pup is 2 weeks old. I wish you good luck with your puppy search and welcome!
Re: Sincere Greetings Hello John and a warm welcome from me and my dogs too, happy and exciting times ahead
Re: Sincere Greetings Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search for the perfect puppy for you!
Re: Sincere Greetings Good luck with the puppy hunt. We've just been through that process twice in the last few months, very exciting. You probably have all the bases covered but my top tips would be: Insist in seeing the dam and sire plus their health certificates. Do read up on what you're looking for in that department! Ask about worming, vaccinations, health checks, feeding, where they're being raised, early socialisation - all great pointers on what to expect when you collect your bundle of joy at 8 weeks or so. You'll get as much help as you want here, they're a great bunch!
Re: Sincere Greetings Hi John, welcome from me and meg. I'm at the other end of the spectrum, meg is 14. Good luck with puppy hunt. You'll get a lot of enjoyment and happiness from having pup. They are such good company, hard work at the beginning (I remember meg as a pup) but you'll love it.
Re: Sincere Greetings Welcome John from me and Pongo the Puppy (22 weeks, chunky yellow lab). You'll get as addicted to this forum as I am! Rosie
Re: Sincere Greetings from a teeny tiny black 5 1/2 year old Lab known as The DivaDog and her pet human
Re: Sincere Greetings Thanks to all. Whenever I come on this forum if I'm feeling a bit flat and doubtful about the pup (do I need the hassle?; I won't be able to just please myself with my time anymore, etc.), the encouragement I get is wonderful and puts a spring back into my step. I'm just waiting for a certain cheque to arrive (which seems like its taking forever mind you) and I can begin my puppy search in earnest 8) I know I'm doing the right thing!!!
Re: Sincere Greetings Hi Jane, I really would but I don't drive so I rely on family members to ferry me around which is a tad difficult
Re: Sincere Greetings Hi John Oh, I really know that 'am I doing the right thing' feeling. I also really, REALLY know the 'oh lord, have I done the right thing' feeling, which kicks in during the first few weeks of the pup arriving. I didn't realise how much lack-of-responsibility and freedom I had until I didn't! There is no doubt that having a puppy completely changes your life - in the early days you spend every waking minute thinking about them, and even when they are pretty grown up (Pongo is 23 weeks now) you still need to think twice before 'nipping out for the day' or deciding to have an evening out. BUT do I regret it? Not for a single, solitary minute. Especially now Pongo is a bit older and has developed a real personality and definite opinions of his own about life (!), he is just a joy to have around - as well as making me get out for a walk every day instead of being plugged into my laptop all the time. Do please keep us updated on your puppy search. Whereabouts are you? Rosie
Re: Sincere Greetings Hi to you Rosie I'm so glad you shared that. I'm getting more certain by the minute. I'll definitely try to keep people updated though I'd prefer not to say whereabouts I am for the mo' if that's ok. :-\
