Ten days now since Poppy the terrorist came to live with us and what a challenge she has been , but patience and love is beginning to pay dividends . She came untrusting, nervous, traumatised and very worried but we have had a massive assitant to help with her rehab, dear Sam Poppy adored Sam the first time she saw him at the shelter and when we collected her a few days later, she remembered him , throwing herself at him with obvious glee . He has been a star , it would be so much harder without him , she follows his lead, watches his every reaction and within a couple of days she was ( just about ) housetrained and coming to us both for cuddles . She observes me giving him commands like SIT and now she does it, but the main and most important thing he is teaching her is trust and security . We had to take Poppy to the Vets this morning as she has pulled a muscle playing with Sam in our garden and was limping , I was dreading the visit with her being nervous, but she followed Sam in , he went for moral support They all know Sam at our Vets and Pops watched as Sam went behind the counter for a treat and slowly but surely, she followed him , then happily allowed the nurse to weigh her . All the time in the surgery , she watched Sam for signs of anxiety , none , so she was good as gold too . This was incredible to us because the RSPCA report said that their Vet had been unable to give her a comprehensive examination due to her nervousness and yet , here with our big lad , she never flinched once . He is her hero , bless him , so proud
Re: Very proud of Sam oh lovely, very heartwarming. He sounds like he's a superstar and its really going well for you all.
Re: Very proud of Sam Well at the risk of repeating myself - she's a VERY lucky girl to have found you!
Re: Very proud of Sam That's lovely, so proud of Sam and happy for you and your incredibly lucky little terrorist.
Re: Very proud of Sam Bless Sam what a sweetheart and what a brave little thing Poppy is turning out to be.
Re: Very proud of Sam Thank you for your lovely comments To me, it just highlights the differing aspects of " work " . We all know the guide dogs, assiatance dogs , medical detection etc. but honestly , Sam has taken to his new role like a duck to water , loving every moment
Re: Very proud of Sam Bless Sam, what a lovely boy he is. Poppy is a lucky wee girl indeed, really glad she has a lovely new Family...
