Sorry this isnt a Lab question , its for Poppy, just wondering if she is past the age to start crate training and if, as a rescue pup , it would cause more anxiety for her ? On the whole, when we are around , she is good, but over the past couple of days she has shown a tendancy to be destructive, so far nothing major but there is time :
Re: is she too old to crate train ? Hi Kate, it can't cause anxiety if you do it with a clicker. It might take a few weeks to build up to any helpful length of time though. Save on toilet rolls in the long run

Re: is she too old to crate train ? We first had a crate for a Wolfie (so it's huge) and we've used it ever since. Maia didn't have a crate as a pup but loves it now, a few biscuits, lots of attention and praise for going and out and she soon settled. I have a friend with a rescued lurcher who is incredibly nervous, if she ever looses him he's bound to be in his crate, he was about three, we think, when she got him. So it's probably never too late. And if she doesn't like it, trying throwing in her favourite loo roll ;D

Well well well , what a turn up for the books We bought a crate yesterday and just put it in the sitting room with the door open , had bought a mattress and put blankets in it . Withing half an hour , she had gone into it , had a bit of a sniff round and then curled up and had a nap She does settle down very early in the evenings , due to the shelter routine of lights out at 6 I suppose , and last night, she did the same but in her crate , she popped out a time or two for a snuggle with Sam but at bed time, we shut the door, not a sound until 6 this morning . I reckon she has been in a crate before as there has been no stress at all, in fact she seems to love it, so maybe she feels safer in the crate , result

Re: is she too old to crate train ? We crate trained Charlie at 9 months and he had been used to one too and would quite often take himself off to sleep in it with the door open, no problems. Thankfully he doesn't need it now as it was a big crate and took up so much space, although he does pinch loo rolls too . Good girl Poppy no more loo rolls for you!! Helen xx
