Nala is 10 weeks old and weighed 9.5kg when we weighed her yesterday, Dad is a huge German shepherd and mum is a working line Labrador retriever, so I'm not sure how big she's going to be, but she has massive paws and huge ears.
Twiglet is 9 weeks old today and she's doing really well weighing in at 5.4 kilos. She's a little poppet
Our Bella is coming up on her 11 months birthday, and we've noticed she's gotten taller recently - so onto the scale with her we went. 55 pounds now - so just shy of 25kg . She's so sporty in build - field type not at all blocky show type....and we just love her in all her goofiness!
Bailey was 5.9kg at 9 weeks. We're booked into the vets again in a couple of weeks for a re-weigh. He'll be 13 weeks then.
My Coco is 14 weeks and 11.5KG. He's been putting on around 1KG/week for last 4 weeks. He's a chunky monkey!
It's great if he is just a slim, big, lad. Be careful though - a bit too often we see people with heavy pups that expect them to be "big" and mistake excess chunkiness (ie fat) for just a puppy that is due to be a big dog....I'm sure you are alive to that, and your pup is lovely and slim, but it's worth mentioning all the same.
Mabel is also 8 months and weighs 21kg. She was putting on too much weight so I've changed her food as I wasn't happy with the food the breeder had been using.
Yeah i understand, im very strict on his diet. NO human food, no scraps, no leftovers, no excess treats (only for toilet training and obedience) I only feed him Royal Canin Lad junior and stick to the recommended weights. atm hes on 3 X 87G but due to go up next week as he turns 5 months. Hes in lovely shape, can see his waist, just feel the ribs and his belly cuts up lovely. But i do think hes going to be big, his paws are like a lion cub! lol
That's good. I have never fed the recommended weight on the packet though, and I doubt anyone with a slim dog has. I mention this because my pup looked really chunky as a baby, and in a photo in isolation he still does, and everyone said look at those paws...! I was right to watch his weight like a hawk though. He turned out to be bang on breed standard at 22.5in with a fighting weight of 28kg.
Did you fed him more or less than on packet? tomorrow i will try get a photo of him standing to see him, personally i think hes perfect. vet said his weight is bang on also by looks he had no issues. Different food is made up of different composition so will differ all the time - at first we fed him Eukabana as this is what he was weaned off his mum and he was eating 4 meals a day, but with the Royal Canin its 10G/meal less and hes losing a meal probz due to the fat/kcal content.
He was fed the same food as your pup - royal canin junior. He is now on 50% of the recommended amount, and has never had more than 70% of the recommended amount. There are three vets at the practice I go to - when I quizzed them about his weight as a pup, one said he was slim, one said about right, the other he needed to lose weight. Keeping your puppy slim does not mean he won't grow to whatever size he is meant to be - he will be whatever size his genetics dictate. He will just get there a bit slower, and that means his bones and joints will be better. You must think I'm obsessed by this! Sorry. I mean only to share learning though, nothing more.
I could never give him 50% of recommended amount, he devours what he gets now in about 2-3 mins in a anti gulping bowl. and always looking for more, I just want him to be right for his age and size. Ill carry on doing what ive been doing and in 2 months when i pick up more flea/worm treatment I will pop him into the vet and ask . but I will take what you saying on board and monitor is size. I keep record of his weight on a weekly basis too.
Eric is 11 weeks old and 10kg he is a show breed not a gun dog and is stocky He has paws like a lion!
Thank you to all our new additions for putting your pups' weights on here..... I really must get around to updating The Chart! I'll try to get to it over this coming weekend. Pongo is pleased to see there are some other big boys and girls - he'd like some more to join him up at the top end of the curve! He started out at 10kg at 10 weeks - and finished up at 39kg. Phew. We should have known we were in for a big boy when everyone was saying "wow, look at the size of those paws.....!"
