Haley and I went on a fantastic walk this evening! For the first time in her 3 weeks with us (she is 11 weeks)we made it all the way around the block! Normally she stops and refuses to move or pulls strongly in a different direction, I would normally give in and carry her for awhile...tonight I tried something new: when she stopped I would walk until the leash was taught but not choking her, turn away from her and wait. I never had to wait more than 5 seconds before she came bounding happily onwards. We are really making progress and I just feel so good right now so I had to share
Re: A Great Walk! Really Making Progress That's fantastic!! Well done!! Great use of body language ("we're going this way") to get the result you wanted
Re: A Great Walk! Really Making Progress Ingenious ...well done, hope walks become more enjoyable from now x
Re: A Great Walk! Really Making Progress That is really great. I love those moments when you've suddenly cracked the communication issue!!!
Re: A Great Walk! Really Making Progress Thanks all! I really feel like we are building a connection now...this is the first "breakthrough" we have had since she has been with us and I just feel so much closer to her
Re: A Great Walk! Really Making Progress Well done! I know the sense of frustration you must have had. With our dog, it was a case of pulling me but to the point I dreaded walking him and would put it off. Now though, he's doing really well. Walks are something I now love! Plus I feel confident enough to take him to new places such as the beach or a different park. Keep up the good work! ;D
