Our new labrador arrives today - well, we have to drive quite a bit to get her, but nonetheless, she becomes part of our family today. We are very excited, but at the same time, i know how distressed and depressed she will be. She is 8 years old and her family has surrendered her because they no longer want her and i just cannot imagine how she will feel. Maybe i put too much human emotion on this, but i just cannot imagine what she will be thinking. All her stuff will be loaded up with her and she will leave. She will arrive at a new home with 3 new buddies (1 dog, 2 cats) and 2 strange people. I am loaded up with treats, new toy, new beds. We are so excited i swear its like we are adopting a baby! Her new name is Rumour. I will post pics once we get settled in. Wish us luck, its the first time Romeo will have a mate and we are a little nervous about the acceptance procedure we must go through tonight! tami
Re: we are very excited, today is the day! Good luck!!!! How exciting! She will no doubt be a bit confused (exactly in the way you describe) but I'm sure you'll find that in a few weeks she'll be a lot more settled. So awful that people give up dogs at that age Can't wait for pics!!!!

Re: we are very excited, today is the day! Oh wow, what a wonderful thing you're doing! Hope today goes well. The fantastic thing about dogs is that they live in the 'here and now' - they just don't have the language to enable them to worry about what's going to happen in the future, or stress over what's happened in the past unless a trigger prompts a 'remembered' response. So just concentrate on making lovely Rumour's first hours and days as stressless as possible. Most labs love new friends, so fingers crossed for a smooth transition. We'll be eagerly awaiting the first photos . By the way, Romeo and Rumour- gorgeous name combination!
